Pinewood Elementary, Mims Florida

The Millage renewal supports reading interventionists in 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms across Brevard Public Schools. This is not a new tax.
At Pinewood Elementary, our reading interventionist, Ms. Russell, works closely with students to provide targeted support that helps strengthen reading skills and build confidence in the classroom.
These are critical years when students make the shift from learning to read to reading to learn. Reading interventionists provide targeted support to help students strengthen their skills and grow as confident readers.
The results are showing: last school year, reading proficiency increased by 6% districtwide for third grade, and four elementary schools improved from a C to an A rating.
Millage funding helps more students build the strong reading foundation they need to succeed in every subject.

Surtax funding strengthens school security by providing the physical security tools our campuses rely on each day. This is not a new tax.
At Pinewood Elementary School, surtax funding supports security enhancements including secure single-point entry, upgraded locks and gates, reinforced front office safety features, expanded security camera coverage, and modern emergency alert systems.
The Sales Surtax renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax helps ensure schools can continue enhancing these protective measures and strengthening campus security to create an environment where students and staff can focus on learning and teaching

The Sales Surtax and Millage work together to support Brevard Public Schools. Neither are new taxes. Both are already in place.
Sales Surtax funding helps maintain secure, modern school facilities and technology infrastructure, while Millage funding supports the people and programs that make learning happen every day. Each funding source serves a distinct purpose, and the funds cannot be used interchangeably.

The Millage renewal invests directly in the educators who serve Brevard students every day. This is not a new tax.
80% of Millage funding supports employee compensation, including additional pay for instructional personnel based on their years of teaching experience and performance.
At Pinewood Elementary School, Ms. Halloran brings 22 years of teaching experience to the classroom. Ms. Halloran enriches the Pinewood community through her passion for fine arts, bringing students and families together through music, art, parades, PBIS initiatives, music concerts, and art camps, while also serving as our dedicated BFT representative. Their experience helps provide students with strong instruction, consistency, and support year after year.
By recognizing the value of experience, Millage-funded compensation increases over time to reward educators for their years of service and dedication to their profession. This investment encourages experienced teachers to continue building their careers in Brevard Public Schools, benefiting both students and school communities.
Strong Schools. Strong Brevard.
