Earlier today, I had the pleasure of hosting a small group of homeschool students from East Norwich at the Nassau County Legislative Building. The students came prepared with thoughtful questions about civic engagement, the role of the Legislature, and how elected officials work to represent the interests of all Nassau County residents.
Civic engagement begins with curiosity, asking questions, and understanding how our government works. It is important that young people recognize that they have a voice in their communities and that an informed, engaged citizenry is essential to a strong democracy. By learning about local government and the responsibilities of elected officials, these students are taking an important first step toward becoming active participants in their communities and the future of our nation.
Thank you to these students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions. It was a pleasure to welcome them and encourage their interest in public service and civic responsibility.
