Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies at all hours, train year-round, and sacrifice time with their families to help others when they're needed most.

To every volunteer firefighter across the country: thank you for your courage, your commitment, and everything you do to keep your communities safe.

Tag a volunteer firefighter who deserves a shoutout. β€οΈπŸš’

Last night at approximately 10:30 p.m., Louisa County experienced a significant storm that caused extensive property damage and brought down thousands of trees. The hardest-hit areas included Pendleton, Mineral, Fredericks Hall, and Bumpass.

Over the next 24 hours, the volunteers of Mineral Volunteer Fire Department responded to an extraordinary variety of emergencies, including multiple structural collapses, a residential collapse with occupants trapped, two working structure fires, dozens of tree and power line incidents, fire alarms, and a drowning incident that resulted in the successful resuscitation of the patient.

The tremendous effort displayed by our volunteers during these incidents was nothing short of remarkable. But the work doesn’t end when the calls are cleared. This evening, our members spent several more hours cleaning and restocking apparatus and equipment to ensure we are ready for the next emergency.

The dedication and professionalism shown by these volunteers are a true reflection of their commitment to serving this community. We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support we receive and for the resilient community that continues to come together in the face of adversity.

Thank you to all of our members, our neighboring stations, law enforcement, EMS, general services, VDOT, utility crews, and every volunteer who answered the call. We are proud to serve Louisa County.

πŸ”₯🚫 Heads up, Louisa County β€” Burn Law starts TODAY at 4 PM! 🚫πŸ”₯

From now through April 30th, Virginia’s 4 PM Burning Law is in effect to reduce wildfire risk during the driest part of the year. These rules aren’t about being a buzzkill β€” they’re about keeping our community and our firefighters safe.

We respond to brush fires every spring that could’ve been avoided with a little extra caution. Wind + dry grass + one spark = a bad day fast.

βœ… Burn smart.
πŸš’ Stay safe.

1/27/25 WORKING INCIDENTS πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

MVFD had a busy day yesterday as our volunteers responded to two back-to-back working structure fires. Despite snow-related access challenges, crews initiated aggressive fire attack and were able to bring both incidents under control shortly after arrival. Following the incidents, it was truly an all-hands-on-deck effort to restore our apparatus back to full readiness. We are proud to serve this great community and stand with our neighbors as they navigate the aftermath of these fires.

Responding units included Engine 2, Squad 2, Tanker 2, Brush 2, and Support 2.
