Excellent and timely piece from The Star Tribune's Eric Roper.
"[Mary] Moriarty is bowing out after an acrimonious tenure that feels like an unfinished mission. Will voters sign up for more?
In many ways, candidates Cedrick Frazier and Anders Folk represent a fork in the road.
Folk is a former federal prosecutor whose campaign is supported by the mayor of Minneapolis and the county sheriff. Frazier is an attorney for the teacher’s union and current state representative...
Experience is a clearer delineator. Folk has spent much of his career on the prosecutor’s side of the courtroom, while Frazier would be new to it.
Unfortunately for Frazier, he campaigned for Moriarty and served on her transition team. The pair worked together in the public defender’s office. These ties to Moriarty have dogged him throughout the race.
Perhaps that explains his campaign’s 'Prosecute ICE' theme, which feels like a deflection from the county’s more pressing public safety challenges...
The county attorney’s race will have real effects on the lives of Hennepin County voters. Moriarty’s tenure is coming to an end, but we’ll soon see if her legacy is here to stay."
Please tell your friends, your friends' friends, your neighbors, your neighbors' neighbors, and anyone else you meet in Hennepin County for the next 16 days to vote for Anders Folk. Our county's public safety and the health of our entire region depend on it.
Cedrick Frazier and Anders Folk represent a fork in the road, four years after the county lurched toward reform.
