Our officers recently encountered a man trying to keep an injured falcon as a pet. They explained to the man that the bird needed medical care, and that keeping a raptor carries a federal fine of $15,000. The man relinquished the animal to our officers, who transported it to the University of Minnesota Raptor Center for treatment and eventual release.

MTPD was proud to stand alongside Metro Transit, Metropolitan Council, and other community leaders for the announcement of the METRO Green Line extension opening date. When the new service opens on June 12, 2027, expect to see MTPD staff and other personnel on board and at stations to make your experience safe and welcoming.

MTPD has been actively preparing for the launch of the extended METRO Green Line in 2027. Part of the planning is coordinating response, training and emergency management with our partners along the Green Line in the West Metro. Thanks to our all our public safety partners, our whole community approach to public safety is at the forefront of our collaboration. Special thanks to Eden Prairie Police Chief Matt Sackett for hosting a recent collaboration meeting and St Louis Park Police Lieutenant Blomsness for taking the time to tour the new Eden Prairie Police Department with us. MTPD looks forward to expanding our service area and incorporating our service mindset to communities along the extended Green Line!

They say dogs are a good judge of character. Our officers recently met a service dog who clearly felt comfortable around them - he fell asleep on one officer's foot! Don't worry, we didn't disturb his nap.

MTPD is here to help the community, no matter what kind of help they need. Sgt. McGriff was recently at a gas station when he noticed two young women having car trouble. He quickly figured out that their car had a tire that was not holding air. Sgt. McGriff stepped right in, changed their tire for them, and got them on their way!

All MTPD officers must complete trainings over the course of their careers to keep their skills sharp, and that includes our K9 officers. Last week, the K9s completed a full day of training focused on locating and retrieving evidence on our trains. The head trainer said it's getting tougher to find places to hide items because the dogs are so good at what they do!
