October is Pedestrian Safety Month, a good time to remember that driving around people walking or rolling takes more than watching the road ahead. Slow down, stay present and look for people wherever they may be.

Recovery Month is recognized every September to highlight new treatment practices, celebrate recovery journeys, and recognize the people who help make recovery possible.

This year, we gathered to celebrate community members in recovery and honor those impacted by the opioid crisis. The event was organized with our People with Lived Experience Subcommittee and hosted by our community partner, Indigenous Peoples Task Force.

Thank you to the families and friends who came to support each milestone — connection and community are essential to recovery. And thank you to everyone who shared your lived experience. Your stories remind others that they’re not alone and that recovery is possible.

To learn more about treatment and recovery options, please visit HennepinCounty.gov/opioid.

Today, and every day, we honor Wakpa Tanka, The Great River (the Mississippi River), and all the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded this land and water for millennia. Hennepin County is working to move our Land and Water Acknowledgement from words into action. We are committed to fostering a more inclusive future—one where Indigenous communities, leaders, and partners are centered as decisions are made about our shared water, land, and air. We recognize that caring for the land, water, and one another is essential to the health and resilience of all our communities. This commitment is ongoing, rooted in partnership and shared responsibility, and strengthened by the wisdom of generations.
