Today, and every day, we honor Wakpa Tanka, The Great River (the Mississippi River), and all the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded this land and water for millennia. Hennepin County is working to move our Land and Water Acknowledgement from words into action. We are committed to fostering a more inclusive future—one where Indigenous communities, leaders, and partners are centered as decisions are made about our shared water, land, and air. We recognize that caring for the land, water, and one another is essential to the health and resilience of all our communities. This commitment is ongoing, rooted in partnership and shared responsibility, and strengthened by the wisdom of generations.
