Thanks to our incredible members and visitors for another amazing year of our ๐ผ ๐พ๐ค๐ข๐ข๐ค๐ฃ ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ member biennial exhibition! Our galleries are now in transition, so we're back to share one more member feature in the meantime.

I was inspired by the 2022 paper cutting exhibit at the American Swedish Institute. I was amazed by how using a simple pair of scissors can change a flat surface into something magical. I used embroidery scissors to cut out a floral pattern that exposed the lining of fabric made from my scraps of fabric, thread and yarn. I created a simple jacket so the focus would be the texture of the soft Ultrasuede contrasting the exposed scraps.

A feeling of joy. As an aging woman of 70, Iโm facing the realities of feeling diminished by a society focused on a distorted concept of what a woman should look like, act like, and contribute to the world. I still want to be noticed and valued.

I think textile art is so important to everyoneโs life. History has proven weโve clothed ourselves, decorated our homes, and shared our stories on cloth. We need to keep these traditions alive.
