Check out this awesome, local opportunity!

"Dear Military Veterans, Retirees, and Active Duty,

On behalf of Edison Elementary School in Minot, we wish to thank you for your service. We would like to invite you to our Annual Veterans Day Car Parade and Music Program.

We are aking for your help by participating in the car parade, contacting military members and veterans to increase the awareness of the Veterans Day Car Parade. The children spend the week learning about what it means to preserve and protect our freedom. Your participation will put a meaning to the word 'honor.' This event was created to collaborate with the Veterans Day Lessons conducted in classrooms. The children will be outside the perimeter of the school grounds with signs they have made to show their respect for your service.

Responses have been so positive, and our residents look forward to this event. The news media also often covers this event. Any banners or flags on vehicles makes it even more special.

The date this year is Tuesday, November 10th. The car parade is from 1:50-2:10 and honking adds to the celebration of our area military. Most cars drive around the school a few times. The Patriotic Music Program that follows the car parade starts at 2:30 and you are invited to join us for that too. For more information you can call Kacie at the school at 701-857-4595, or reach out to me through email: [email protected]

With Appreciation,

Edison School Staff and children"

Today from 8:00am-9:00am, Airmen from Minot AFB kicked off Start with Hello Week at Edison Elementary School, giving high fives, fist bumps, and cheers to students! They also recited the Pledge of Allegiance, colored pictures, and sang their school song with them!

Edison Elementary School does this annually to foster a sense of community in their school and remind their students that they belong in their school family, as well as their larger Minot family.

Background: Edison Elementary School began celebrating their "Start with Hello Week" in 2021. This was part of Sandy Hook's promise to stop isolation and build empathy/inclusion within a school setting. To celebrate that inclusion, their school team decided to bring in community supports so that their students could feel that sense of belonging on a broader scale.

Thank you MSgt Elizabeth Thompson, Carrie Driver, and Ted Bolton for assisting with the coordination. Thank You, especially, Ms. Lang for inviting us! I hope the rest of the week is as exciting and memorable as today!
