🌱 Winter can be tough on alfalfa in North Dakota.

Winter injury and winterkill can reduce stand productivity, forage yield, and profitability. That's why NCREC is participating in a multi-state research effort with Michigan State University, the University of Alaska, and the University of Missouri to identify alfalfa genetics with improved winter survival.

This study includes 23 alfalfa lines being evaluated for persistence, forage yield, and forage quality under North Dakota conditions, helping identify genetics that can better withstand harsh winters while maintaining strong forage performance.

This week we see an expansion of abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions out west as well as the addition of abnormally dry in the east.
