⚠️ STORM SHELTER NOW OPEN ⚠️

Due to the forecasted severe weather and high wind threat, the City of Minot storm shelter is now open and will remain open through 11:00 p.m., or longer if conditions warrant.

The storm shelter is located in the Minot Municipal Court area of the Minot Auditorium (420 3rd Ave SW). Door 4 on the west wall is open.

Due to several road construction projects in the area, access to the shelter is available via 6th St SW to 3rd Ave SW. Please follow posted signage to Municipal Court.

If you need a safe place during the storm, please do not hesitate to use the shelter. If pets need to travel with you, a leash is required, a kennel is appreciated.

Vehicle fire quickly extinguished Friday afternoon in southeast Minot

At approximately 2:25 p.m., Minot Central Dispatch received a report of a vehicle fire in the driveway of a residence in the 1400 block of E. Central Ave.

While responding, crews were advised that no occupants were inside the vehicle. The vehicle was reported to be approximately five feet from a detached shed and garage and about 30 feet from the residence.

Upon arrival, Engine 1 found the vehicle engulfed in flames. Crews quickly brought the fire under control and extinguished it, preventing the flames from spreading to the nearby shed and detached garage.

No injuries were reported.

A total of four engines and one battalion chief responded to the scene, along with the Minot Police Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Congratulations to Senior Firefighter Austin Berntson, the Minot Fire Department's Firefighter of the Year.

Over the past year, Austin has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the department. After recently transferring battalions, he seamlessly adapted to his new role with A Battalion and quickly became a valuable asset to his crew.

"He has become one of our Swiss Army Knives," Battalion Chief Burns said. "He has excelled in all the different roles he's been assigned."

In addition to his operational responsibilities, Austin is a key member of the department's Peer Support Team, helping support the mental health and well-being of fellow firefighters.

Congratulations, Austin, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your continued service to the department and our community.

Today, our crew at Station 1 had the chance to give Luca a ride to school in something he only dreamed of - a fire engine.

Every year we donate a few certificates for a Fire Engine Ride to community organizations to support their fundraisers. Lucky for Luca, his parents were the winning bidders this year.

Luca got to pull up to Edison Elementary in Engine 1 and helped give all his classmates a tour of the engine.

Luca, we hope this was a day you'll never forget.

Continuing our recognition of members honored during last week’s ceremony, today we’re highlighting two officers recognized for stepping into important leadership roles within the Minot Fire Department.

Captain James Dockter was recognized for his promotion to Captain. Captains play a critical role in day-to-day operations, training, leadership, and emergency response. They are responsible for the health and safety of their crews and are expected to lead from the front every shift.

Anik Emery was also recognized as the department’s newest Fire Marshal. The Fire Marshal position plays an important role in community risk reduction through fire prevention, building inspections, public safety education, and fire investigations, all while helping protect both citizens and firefighters.

Congratulations to Captain James Dockter and Fire Marshal Anik Emery on their new roles and continued commitment to serving the Minot community.

Continuing our recognition of members honored during last week’s ceremony, today we’re highlighting three firefighters who recently achieved the rank of Senior Firefighter.

This accomplishment represents dedication, experience, and the successful completion of department requirements needed to earn Senior Firefighter status. During the ceremony, each firefighter was presented with a Minot Fire Department challenge coin in recognition of reaching this milestone.

We’re continuing to recognize members of the Minot Fire Department who graduated, received promotions, or were honored during last week’s ceremony.

Today, we’re recognizing two firefighters who successfully completed their 12–18 month probationary period, a major milestone in their fire service careers.

Reaching this point requires extensive training, testing, and hands-on skill development, including completion of EMT coursework, chapter testing, practical skills assessments, and Pro Board Firefighter I certification. This accomplishment marks their transition from the probationary yellow helmet to the traditional black helmet, an important milestone in the fire service that reflects their dedication, growth, and commitment to the profession.

Congratulations to Firefighter Brady Nelson and Firefighter Hunter Wolf on earning this achievement and officially graduating from probationary status.

This week, we’re highlighting all Minot Fire Department members who graduated, received promotions, or were recognized during last week’s ceremony. We’re kicking it off today with our newest additions to the department.

Congratulations on your hard work throughout the academy, and best of luck as you continue through your probationary year. These milestones are made even more meaningful with the support of family and loved ones, who had the honor of pinning their badges during the ceremony.
