Mint Hill Fire Department would like to congratulate B-Shift Firefighter Trey Cooke on his completion of the NC Breathing Equipment/Firefighter Survival School. Put on by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal, this school is by reputation one of the most challenging firefighter survival schools in the state. Firefighter Cooke joins a long list of Mint Hill Firefighters that have completed this school.

Congratulations Firefighter Cooke!

Coming to Mint Hill Madness this weekend? Stop by and see us!

The Mint Hill Fire Department will have a tent set up at the festival, and we’d love for you to stop by! Bring the kids by for some goodies and take a few minutes to meet our firefighters and learn more about the services we offer to help keep our community safe.

We’ll have information available about our reflective address signs, smoke alarm testing and installation, and our Community Connect program, which we began promoting in September. We’ll also have smoke alarms available for households that don’t currently have one.

Whether you have questions about fire safety, need help signing up for Community Connect, or just want to say hello, we look forward to seeing you!

We’re proud to serve the Mint Hill community, and we hope to see you at Mint Hill Madness!

The Mint Hill Fire Department expresses our Deepest condolences to the Durham Fire Department as its members and community mourn the loss of this courageous firefighter. We also offer our prayers for the two other members that were injured and wish them a speedy recovery.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Thank you, Durham, for surrounding our DFD family with care during this profoundly difficult time.

🚒 YOUR INFORMATION. OUR PREPARATION. A SAFER MINT HILL.
The Mint Hill Fire Department is proud to introduce First Due Community Connect —a free, secure, voluntary program that helps our firefighters have important information before we arrive at an emergency.
Residents and business owners can provide information about their property, occupants, pets, special assistance needs, access points, utilities, and other important details that could help our crews when seconds count.
🔥 Need smoke alarms? Community Connect also provides residents with an easy way to request assistance with smoke alarm installation from the Mint Hill Fire Department.

Don’t let your 4th of July look like either of these 🇺🇸

Know the dangers of illegal amateur fireworks displays! Your Mint Hill Fire Dept. strongly encourages you to find a professionally presented fireworks show this year for your 4th of July celebration.

Conditions are still VERY DRY. Please don’t unintentionally set your house or your neighbors’ houses, and / or yards on fire by shooting fireworks. Fireworks are also sneaky dangerous.

🇺🇸Please play it safe as we celebrate the 250th birthday of the best country on the planet! 🇺🇸
