🎃👻 HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM MISHAWAKA POLICE! 👻🎃

🍬 Mishawaka Trick-or-Treating is Saturday, October 31, from 5:00 PM–7:00 PM!

Halloween is a fun night for ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses! 🦸‍♀️🧙‍♂️ Help keep everyone safe by following these important Halloween safety tips:

🎃 FOR TRICK-OR-TREATERS:

🚶 Use sidewalks and crosswalks. Look both ways before crossing the street and never dart between parked cars.

🌟 Be visible! Carry a flashlight, use glow sticks, or wear reflective clothing.

👀 Stay alert. Put phones away and watch for vehicles.

🏡 Stick to familiar neighborhoods and only visit homes with their porch lights on.

🚪 Never enter someone's home to get candy. Stay outside at the door when trick-or-treating.

👨‍👩‍👧 Younger children should always have adult supervision.

🍭 Inspect candy before eating. Have a trusted adult check all treats first.

🚗 FOR DRIVERS:

🐢 SLOW DOWN! Be especially cautious in residential neighborhoods.

📵 Put the phone down and eliminate distractions.

🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing streets, especially between parked vehicles.

💡 Use extra caution when entering and exiting driveways and intersections.

🏠 FOR HOMEOWNERS:

💡 Turn on porch lights and keep walkways clear.

🕯️ Use battery-operated candles instead of open flames.

🐶 Keep pets secured and away from the excitement if they become anxious.

🚔 CONGRATULATIONS, CAPTAIN CRAFT! 👏

The Mishawaka Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Lt. Jacob Craft to Night Shift Captain, effective Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Following the recent retirement of Captain Matthew Smith, Captain Craft steps into this new leadership role, continuing his service and commitment to the Mishawaka community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to join us along the Mishawaka Riverwalk this past Saturday for the annual Table & Treat event! We had a spooktacular time seeing all the creative costumes, smiling faces, and especially all the little police officers who stopped by! 💙🖤

We loved celebrating Halloween with our amazing community and appreciate everyone who made this event so special!

On Friday, October 23, Mishawaka Police had the privilege of helping kick off Red Ribbon Week at LaSalle Elementary School! 🎗️

We joined students and staff as they walked around LaSalle, proudly showing their commitment to living a DRUG-FREE life! 💪❤️

A big thank-you to SRO Dan Gebo and LaSalle Elementary for inviting Safety Pup 🐾, along with members of our Street Crimes Unit, including K9 Bailey, to be part of this special event!

We’re proud to stand alongside our students, educators, and community in promoting healthy choices and encouraging our youth to stay drug-free!

Grab your costumes and trick-or-treat bags and join Mishawaka Police and more than 60 local businesses for a spooktacular evening along the Mishawaka RiverWalk this Saturday, October 24, from 5:00–7:00 PM!

🚔 STOP BY AND SEE MISHAWAKA POLICE FIRST! 🎃

You’ll find us near Main Street Bridge and the Old Mishawaka Police Department at 200 N. Church Street, along the RiverWalk where we’ll be handing out a limited number of Halloween Safety Swag Bags! Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, including Sam's Club , the first 1,000 kids will receive a special bag containing:

🎨 A police coloring book, courtesy of the National Child Safety Council
⭐ A police sticker badge, courtesy of the National Child Safety Council
🍬 A piece of candy, courtesy of Sam's Club

National Prescription is happening Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 AM–2 PM!

Mishawaka Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA are partnering to provide a safe, free, and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted or expired medications.

Take Back Day helps communities safely and properly dispose of old and unneeded medications.

Over the next two weeks, applicants can expect to hear from a city representative with additional information, next steps, and instructions for the upcoming process.

💪 Start Preparing for the Physical Fitness Test!

While you wait for the next steps, now is a great time to begin preparing for the physical fitness portion of the process.

A few tips to get started:

Practice push-ups and sit-ups regularly.
Begin building your running endurance with consistent training.
Work on agility, balance, and overall conditioning.
Get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and increase your training gradually.
