Happy Halloween! Thank you to our local schools and community members for inviting us alongside to celebrate in Halloween celebrations. Tonight’s the big night and with rain in the forecast please be safe this evening when out.

Please review the tips below if you head out and it rains

Waterproof Outerwear: Layer clear ponchos or lightweight rain jackets over costumes.
Footwear Protection: Use waterproof boots or shoe covers to prevent slips on slick surfaces.
High-Visibility Gear: Attach reflective tape, LED lights, or glow sticks for low-visibility wet conditions.
Hands-Free Lighting: Use hooded raincoats or bright umbrellas so children can easily carry candy buckets.
Route Hazard Checks: Carry a waterproof flashlight to spot puddles and walkway hazards.

As always please inspect candy before consumption.
Happy Halloween 🎃

Warp Speed Myth: We all wish our cars had a warp drive to magically get us through traffic instantly, but teleportation still belongs in sci-fi.
The Reality: Speeding might feel like it saves a minute or two, but it mostly just ramps up the risk.
The Routine:
Stick to safe, legal speeds.
Always buckle up before you roll out.
Leave a little early so a slow-down on the road doesn't ruin your day.

Award-winning actress Kayden Brenna Tokarski (“General Hospital”) will serve as the keynote speaker for the 38th Annual Walk Against Drugs on Saturday, October 17.

The event kicks off at 8 am with Kayden leading the rally at Mission Viejo High School.

Kayden, 17, made her debut this summer as Scout Cain on “General Hospital,” the longest-running scripted American drama and the longest-running American soap opera currently in production. Most notably, Kayden gained early recognition playing the young version of Julia Roberts' character in the Emmy-nominated Starz original TV series "Gaslit.”

In addition, she's starred in several movies and even stepped into the world of "Wednesday" (Netflix), voicing Wednesday Addams in a national Wendy's commercial tied to the hit series. She stars alongside Joey Fatone in a national Red Lobster commercial. She also appeared in the motivational Dhar Mann videos and does a lot of advocacy work for nonprofits.

After the rally, participants will walk together down La Paz Road through the Oso Creek Trail and end at the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park (24932 Veterans Way) for the Community Fair and South County Disaster Preparedness Expo. Here, attendees can meet Kayden and see static displays by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, and other public agencies.

More information about road closures and shuttle services can be found at the City of Mission Viejo Website or by calling 949-470-8433.

As part of the 38th Annual Walk Against Drugs on Saturday, October 17, the City of Mission Viejo and Mission Viejo Police Services are bringing back the Safe Schools Challenge! This unique contest gives Mission Viejo students the opportunity to get creative, promote public safety, and make a positive impact in their community.

Here’s the challenge: Create a 30-second-or-less public service announcement (PSA) video focused on a public safety topic. Grab your classmates, come up with a great idea, and show us how you can make a difference. Once submitted, videos will be shared on social media and voted on by the public and City of Mission Viejo staff. Entries will also be evaluated using a scoring rubric, with the videos receiving the highest overall scores winning a pizza party for their class!

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your classmates, get creative, and start filming! The Safe Schools Challenge is on.
