🚒This past weekend at the State Fire Chief’s Conference in Helena, Retired Captain Rick Paulsen (and father of Interim Fire Chief Kirk Paulsen) was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award 🚒

For more than five decades, Captain Paulsen has exemplified dedication, leadership, and excellence in the fire service. Beginning as a volunteer firefighter with Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) in 1969, Rick devoted 47 years to the department, serving as a firefighter, full-time professional, and longtime Training Officer. His leadership and mentorship helped shape generations of firefighters while strengthening safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Since retiring from MRFD in 2016, Rick has continued sharing his knowledge through the Montana Fire Services Training School, providing essential training to career and volunteer departments throughout Montana, including rural and underserved communities. His commitment to lifelong learning and firefighter development also extends internationally, where he has trained first responders in South Africa and Namibia.

Rick’s remarkable career reflects a lifetime dedicated to protecting others, mentoring fellow firefighters, and strengthening emergency response both at home and around the world. His lasting impact on the fire service makes him truly deserving of meritorious recognition.

👏 Thank you, Rick, for your decades of selfless service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the fire service 🚒

🔥 Manager & Boss Appreciation Day 🔥

Today, we’re taking a moment to recognize the Chiefs, officers, and supervisors who help lead our fire district every day.

Leadership in the fire service means much more than wearing a different badge. It means making tough decisions, supporting your crews, mentoring the next generation, managing the unexpected, and being there when your team and community need you most.

To all of our Chiefs and supervisors: thank you for your dedication, leadership, and commitment to the people you serve. Your work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout our organization and our community.

We appreciate you and everything you do to keep our crews supported, prepared, and ready to answer the call. 🚒❤️

🚒 Celebrating a Well-Deserved Retirement! 🎉

After years of dedicated service, our IT Manager is retiring, and we want to take a moment to recognize the important role he has played in supporting our fire district.

While firefighters answer the call on the front lines, so much of what makes our mission possible happens behind the scenes. From keeping our technology and systems running to supporting the communications, operations, and personnel who serve our community, our IT Manager has been an essential part of our team.

His hard work, commitment, problem-solving skills, and willingness to tackle every challenge have made a lasting difference throughout the district. Technology may change, but the dedication and teamwork it takes to keep our district moving forward never go out of style.

On behalf of everyone at the fire district, thank you for your years of service, your countless contributions, and the support you have provided to our members and the community we proudly serve.

As you begin this next chapter, we wish you a retirement filled with happiness, good health, new adventures, and plenty of time to enjoy the things you love.

You’ve spent years keeping us connected. Now it’s time to disconnect from work and enjoy retirement! 😄
