EmpowerMT welcomes Janaína Vieira-Marques, our new director of Youth Leadership & Engagement! 💫

Janaína Vieira-Marques is a Brazilian-born artist, educator, Public Art Specialist, and community builder. As Director of Youth Leadership and Engagement at EmpowerMT, she brings a rich multicultural perspective to youth empowerment and community organizing. With more than 18 years of teaching experience, Janaína has spent the last eight years partnering with youth on impactful public art projects that elevate their voices in community spaces. Previously, she served four years as Educator and Outreach Coordinator at the Missoula Art Museum and worked as a teaching artist in Montana and the D.C. area. She honors her roots in the land of the Mbya and Tekohá (Guarani) Indigenous peoples in Brazil.

We had a great time outdoors at the 2026 Empowering Youth Leadership Institute this past summer sharing experiences, embracing identity, gaining insights, and importantly - making new friends!

We’d like to give a special shoutout to the Frederick Youth Council, who traveled from Maryland to attend EYLI this year! ⚡✈️

We also would like to give a shoutout to our 2026 EYLI camp photographer Alex Kim 📷 thank you Alex!

At EmpowerMT, we believe in healing-centered, youth-led leadership grounded in belonging, meaning, well-being, and purpose. Our youth programs including EYLI and our community clubs equip young people with tools to understand identity, disrupt systemic oppression, and lead transformative change.
