The 3rd Wednesday of October (today) is International Pronouns Day

"International Pronouns Day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace.

Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities."

NATIONAL LGBT CENTER AWARENESS DAY

"On October 19, National LGBT Center Awareness Day shines a spotlight on the vital role LGBTQ+ centers play as lifelines in communities across the nation. This is more than a day of celebration; it's a crucial opportunity to understand why these centers exist, the life-saving work they do, and how we can all contribute to their mission.

For many, an LGBT center is the first place LGBTQ+ individuals can safely and unapologetically be themselves. In a world where LGBTQ+ individuals still face significant rates of discrimination, harassment, and violence, these centers function as critical safe havens."

Today, the Gay Health Task Force wants to give a BIG shout-out to our friends and community partners at The Center (Western Montana LGBTQ+ Community Center) in Missoula! 💜

LGBTQ+ community centers are so much more than buildings. They are places where connections are made, friendships grow, resources are shared, and people can find community, support, and a sense of belonging.

We are grateful for the work The Center does to support, celebrate, and uplift our LGBTQIA2S+ relatives throughout western Montana.

Thank you for helping make our community stronger, more connected, and more welcoming for everyone! 🌈❤️

For free, confidential, and rapid HIV/STI testing visit the Gay Health Task Force at 500 North Higgins Ave, Suite 105 Missoula, MT; visit our website for information on walk-in hours or to schedule your testing.

🪶 MMIR Conference 2026: More Than Statistics — Our Relatives 🪶

These are difficult numbers to read, but behind every statistic is a person.

A relative. A child. A sibling. A parent. A friend. A member of a community.

🔴 Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Indigenous males ages 10–24.

🔴 Indigenous women are murdered at rates reported to be as much as 10 times higher than the national average.

🔴 Only about 2% of cases involving missing Indigenous people receive national media attention.

🔴 Two Spirit people experience disproportionately high rates of violence, with some research reporting rates 4 times higher than among their non-Indigenous peers.

At the 2026 MMIR Conference, we are reminded that these numbers are not simply statistics.

They are our relatives.

They have names. They have families. They have stories. They have people who love them, search for them, mourn them, and continue demanding that they not be forgotten.

As Two Spirit people, we also know how easily our relatives can disappear within the statistics themselves—misgendered, misidentified, or simply not counted.

We remember them.
We say their names.
We honor their families.
And we continue working toward a future where every Indigenous and Two Spirit relative is safe, valued, and able to return home.

❤️ National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day ❤️

Today is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge HIV stigma, and recognize the disproportionate impact HIV continues to have on Hispanic and Latino communities.

Ending HIV stigma starts with talking openly about HIV, knowing our status, supporting prevention, and making testing accessible and welcoming.

At the Gay Health Task Force, everyone deserves sexual health care without shame, stigma, or judgment.
