Mize's defense delivered a strong performance on Friday, October 16, 2026, forcing six turnovers as the Bulldogs shut out Clarkdale 13-0 on Homecoming Night.

The victory improved Mize to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Region 6-2A play.

"Man, what a game plan by our defensive coordinator Sid Wheatley," said Mize head coach Matt Maddox. "He had our guys ready to play tonight. We had big stops in big moments. We also had big hits and created a bunch of turnovers."

After a scoreless first quarter, Mize broke through midway through the second quarter when senior quarterback Antrell Agee capped a four-minute scoring drive with a five-yard touchdown run. The successful extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.

Mize extended its lead midway through the third quarter, capitalizing on a Clarkdale fumble at the Clarkdale's 48-yard line.

The Bulldogs pieced together a drive that lasted just over five minutes, capped by a four-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jamiyon Gray.

Mize's defense made several critical stops, recovering two fumbles, hauling in an interception, and forcing three turnovers on downs to preserve the shutout.

Maddox emphasized the importance of continued improvement as the Bulldogs prepare for another region matchup.

"Right now, our focus is on us," said Maddox. "Bay Springs is going to be a good quality opponent. They have athletes and big guys up front. They'll be a challenge. But right now we have to focus on us. We've played a tough non-district schedule. We're a little banged up, but we're trying to get healthy and get better at certain things."

Mize maintains home-field advantage on Friday, October 23, 2026, as the Bulldogs host Bay Springs for Senior Night.

Maddox said his team must build on Friday night's shutout win while improving its discipline and ex*****on.

"We have to come together, give great individual effort, and be tough," said Maddox. "I thought we did those three alright tonight, but we weren't very disciplined at times. We have to play with discipline. Next week is Senior Night, and we have to get after it."

Mize High School U.S. History teacher Kyle Magee continued bringing history to life in his classroom on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as students traveled back to the Roaring Twenties through an interactive simulation titled β€œThe Big Cheese.”

The activity focused on Prohibition and the rise of organized crime during the 1920s, a period marked by significant social, political, and economic changes across the United States.

Working in teams, students examined the difficult decisions, economic incentives, and unintended consequences that shaped American society during the era.

Through historical scenarios, students explored how Prohibition fueled illegal businesses, political corruption, and greater challenges for law enforcement.

The simulation encouraged students to think critically about how government policies, human behavior, and the consequences of those decisions are connected.

Students applied their knowledge of the period while competing against their classmates for the title of β€œThe Big Cheese.”

The activity is part of Magee’s ongoing effort to make U.S. History engaging and interactive, allowing students to explore historical events and better understand their lasting impact on American society.

⚾️ πŸ† Mize's Justin Ainsworth Named MHSAA Baseball Coach of the Year ⚾️ πŸ†

Mize High School head baseball coach Justin Ainsworth has been named MHSAA Baseball Coach of the Year after a historic 2026 season in which the Bulldogs captured the MHSAA Class 2A State Championship.

Ainsworth guided Mize to a 31-8 overall record and the program's first baseball state championship since 2003. The Bulldogs capped their championship run by sweeping East Webster in the Class 2A State Championship series at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS.

The championship held special significance for Ainsworth, a Mize graduate and player on the Bulldogs' 2003 state championship team. More than two decades later, he helped bring another championship trophy home to Mize β€” this time as the program's head coach.

Receiving one of the state's top coaching honors, Ainsworth credits the accomplishment to his players' and assistant coaches' commitment and hard work throughout the championship season.

Ainsworth's success also earned recognition beyond Mississippi, as he was nominated for National Baseball Coach of the Year.
