Grand County Sheriff's Office This is the official page of Utah's Grand County Sheriff's Office. The Grand County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Jamison Wiggins.

We are located in Moab, Utah and serve all of Grand County. We are dedicated to serving the great people of our community and happy to do so. We are very proud to be part of this community. We are always looking for ways that we can improve and better serve each of you. We love this beautiful land in which we live and our community. We thank you for your continued support and we would love to hear from you all. Responsibilities:

The office of Sheriff is a constitutionally created office with duties prescribed by the Utah legislature. The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and is elected every 4 years. The Sheriff has county-wide jurisdiction, but in practice, mostly concentrates activities outside city limits where municipal officers cannot operate. The Sheriff has been charged with the responsibility to maintain the public peace and protecting life and property of all citizens of Grand County. Obligations and responsibilities have continuously grown throughout the years. Duties:

The duties of the Sheriff’s Office have increased as administrative procedures, court decisions, and requirements of the laws have brought about sophisticated and technical advancements to law enforcement. Vision:

The Grand County Sheriff's Office will set standards of conduct and service through professionalism, integrity, accountability, education and training. The 'Grand County Sheriff's Office will foster productive partnerships with citizens, businesses, other members of the criminal justice system, and emergency responders, so the community will be best served. Core Values:

INTEGRITY
Integrity is the very foundation of our core ethics and shall be exhibited in every aspect of our professional and personal lives. This commitment entails much more than just adhering to the letter of the law or complying with a set of general orders. Integrity mandates that we incorporate honesty and fairness into the process of making even the smallest of decisions. It is through our conduct that we will earn the respect and trust of both our communities and of one another. SERVICE
We have dedicated ourselves to improving the quality of life and reducing the incidence of crime . We shall remain forever vigilant as a united force between the criminal element and their prospective victims. The public has entrusted us with the protection of their lives and property, and we willingly accept the inherent risks associated with this tremendous responsibility. We shall use customer satisfaction as the benchmark by which we measure our success. RESPECT
We shall consistently demonstrate tolerance, civility and fairness when dealing with community members and each other. Our reputation is dependent upon our ability to operate free from prejudice and favoritism in all situations. We shall remain cognizant of the fact that many citizens judge our entire agency by the actions of an individual; therefore, we shall always conduct ourselves in a manner that ensures respect for all our members. QUALITY
We shall never limit our performance to fit within the accepted standards set by those around us. Instead, we will work diligently and united to far exceed any and all expectations. We will continue to improve ourselves both professionally and personally through a combination of education, ingenuity and cooperation.

Preparedness Through Partnership

Recently, Emergency Manager Kate Finley, Sheriff Wiggins, County Security Chief Austin Brewer, Moab Valley Fire Department, Health Department and the Grand County School District participated in an active shooter tabletop exercise.

These exercises bring our local leaders and public safety partners together to review response plans, strengthen communication, and coordinate efforts in the event of an emergency involving our schools.

Preparation, communication, and teamwork are essential to keeping our students, staff, and community safe. We appreciate the continued collaboration between Grand County agencies and the School District as we work together to prepare for the unexpected.

Working together to keep Grand County safe. đź’™

🌧️ Wet Weather Update – Grand County

The rain is coming down across Grand County, and we’re seeing roads wash out and water running across roadways.

🚨 Please use caution around creek crossings. Water levels can rise quickly, and roads can become dangerous or impassable with little warning. Never attempt to cross moving water if you’re unsure of the depth or road conditions.

If you can, stay home, stay warm, and let the weather pass. There’s no need to take unnecessary risks.

Our deputies are out patrolling the area and monitoring conditions. We’ll do our best to keep an eye on things, but please give yourself extra time, use caution, and turn around if a road looks unsafe.

Stay safe out there, Grand County! 🌧️🚔

🍂🚔 Fall in the La Sals is hard to beat!

There’s something special about patrolling the La Sal Mountains this time of year. The fall colors are coming out, the views are hard to beat, and it’s a reminder of just how lucky we are to serve this community.

The changing leaves make this one of our favorite times of year in Grand County. Stay safe out there, enjoy the fall colors, and if you’re heading into the mountains, keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for changing conditions!

Training Together. Preparing Together.

Today, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, including our Emergency Manager, joined the Utah Highway Patrol, Grand County EMS, Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Moab Valley Fire Department, and the UMTRA Project for a joint mock emergency exercise.

The exercise gave each agency an opportunity to work through a simulated emergency, strengthen communication, coordinate resources, and practice how we would respond together during a real-world event.

Exercises like this help ensure that when an emergency happens, our agencies are prepared to work together quickly and effectively.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and continues working to keep our communities safe.

September 21, 2026:

Informative video regarding immigration operation in Moab. The activity today was not relayed to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office in advance and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office is not involved or participating in any immigration warrant service. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is disappointed and surprised by this unprecedented lack of information and communication.

🥎 BATTLE OF THE BADGES — CASE CLOSED… SORT OF.

Over the weekend, members of the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Grand County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue participated in the Children’s Justice Center Battle of the Badges Kickball Tournament.

For two days, we were assigned to a very different type of call: “Kickball in progress.” 🚔🥎

There were no arrests, no pursuits, and surprisingly few use-of-force reports… although there were several questionable throws that probably deserved further investigation.

Our teams showed up, represented the badge, and most importantly, helped support an incredible organization doing incredibly important work for the children in our community.

We’re proud to support the Children’s Justice Center and grateful for everyone who came out to play, cheer, compete, and support the cause.

The final report:
âś… Good cause
âś… Good people
âś… Good times
âś… Great memories
⚠️ Several officers may be experiencing suspicious levels of soreness

Thank you to the Children’s Justice Center for putting on a great event.

Grand County Sheriff’s Office: Serving the community… one kickball investigation at a time.
