Learn how Mobile County agencies, organizations, and community partners prepared for Hurricane Isaias as it approached last Friday.

Effective disaster preparedness relies on agency coordination, proactive planning, and a shared commitment to keeping local residents safe.

Sincere thanks go to the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency, local partner agencies, and Mobile County crews who worked around the clock behind the scenes to secure facilities, ready essential equipment, and safeguard the community ahead of the severe weather.

Mobile County residents: here’s where things stand on FEMA help after Hurricane Isaias.

There is no FEMA financial assistance for individuals right now. Mobile County EMA is working with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency on the damage assessment process, and we will share updates as soon as we have them.

While that process plays out:

Document your damage: Take photos and video before you clean up or make repairs.
Keep your receipts: Save them for repairs, supplies, and cleanup.
Call your insurance company: Start your claim now. Don’t wait on a federal decision.
Need help now? Dial 2-1-1 or text your ZIP code to 898-211.

Follow Mobile County EMA here and on the free Mobile County EMA app for updates.

Please note at this time, there is no direct FEMA financial assistance available to individuals. And there are some major β€œifs” that have to be answered before we know if, when or how much FEMA assistance is coming:

*IF there’s enough damage, FEMA joins local and state experts to do a joint preliminary damage assessment.

*IF that joint preliminary damage assessment shows the damage meets the federal threshold, the Governor requests a federal disaster declaration from the President through FEMA.

*IF that request is approved, the declaration will spell out which counties are eligible and for what kind of assistance. This may or may not include direct financial assistance to individuals.

This process takes time to complete. The fastest way of getting help is to dial 2-1-1 or text your ZIP code to 898-211.

πŸ” CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH: TIP #3

Require Multifactor Authentication

Passwords aren't your only line of defense.

Multifactor authentication (MFA) adds another layer of security to your accounts. Encourage employees to use the most secure MFA option available.

πŸ”‘ A physical security key provides strong protection and is easy to use.

Add that extra layer of protection wherever you can. Learn more: https://www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month

🚨 When disaster strikes, every second counts!

Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams (NERTs) are grassroots groups where neighbors come together to prepare for emergencies like hurricanes, floods, and other disasters. NERTs bridge the gap between first responders and the community by training volunteers with hands-on skills to respond quickly, support emergency efforts, and build a stronger, more resilient neighborhood. πŸ’ͺ🏽🏘️

Ready to step up and make a difference? Start a NERT in your area today!
