A year ago today, we celebrated the Mobile Ship Channel reaching its full 50-foot depth. Since then, roughly 170 vessels have transited the channel with a draft greater than 45 feet, allowing shippers to move more cargo at once. The added depth and capacity are among several factors that helped drive a record revenue year for the Alabama Port Authority in 2026.

Thank you to the many state and federal partners who made this expansion possible and continue to invest in the port infrastructure that’s moving Alabama’s economy forward.

The Port of Mobile closed to vessel traffic ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

At approximately 2 a.m. CDT today, Oct. 9, the U.S. Coast Guard established Port Condition ZULU, closing the Port of Mobile to vessel traffic. Cargo-handling operations are suspended, except for activities specifically authorized by the Coast Guard.

Alabama Port Authority facilities have been secured to protect personnel, cargo, and equipment. Vessel and terminal operations are suspended, and we are continuing to monitor Hurricane Isaias and coordinate with the Coast Guard and our terminal partners.

After the storm, facilities will be inspected to determine when operations can safely resume. Reopening to vessel traffic will depend on Coast Guard assessments and authorization. The latest information on our operational status is available at alports.com.
