The Red Ribbon program is our nation’s largest and longest-running drug awareness and prevention program. This year, we are remembering our former Board Chair, the late Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran. For more than 25 years, he never missed an opportunity to recognize our community’s Red Ribbon Student Leaders. This year, two of his grandchildren, Lee and Emma Kate, have been selected to represent their school as Red Ribbon Student Leaders. We are so proud of Lee and Emma Kate for carrying forward their Grandfather’s legacy!

Congratulations to our Executive Director, Virginia Guy!

💙 Congratulations to Virginia Guy, recipient of our Bluebird Award! 💙

At this year’s Annual Community Awareness Fundraiser, we are honored to recognize Virginia Guy, Executive Director of the Drug Education Council, with our Bluebird Award, given in honor of Mr. Wh**ey Whiten.

Since 1991, Virginia has dedicated her career to prevention, intervention, recovery support, and helping individuals and families affected by substance use disorder. Her message has remained clear and powerful: substance use disorder is preventable, addiction is treatable, and people can and do recover.

Virginia’s commitment to connecting people with resources, educating our communities, and offering hope has made a lasting impact throughout Southwest Alabama.

Please join us in congratulating Virginia Guy on this well-deserved honor! 💙🐦

💜Closing out Recovery Month by “Showing Up Purple”!💜

It’s the end of the month, but the message will continue: Recovery Matters. Prevention Matters. You Matter! Many thanks to Cumulus Radio, WABD 97.5’s Zoe McMahon, and our community partner agencies for making Recovery Month a success!💜💜💜

We’re wearing purple at United Way of Southwest Alabama to recognize National Recovery Month. 💜

Recovery is a journey, and no one should have to walk it alone. This month, we’re raising awareness, reducing stigma and recognizing the strength it takes to seek help, continue on the path to recovery and support someone who is struggling.

We’re proud to stand with individuals and families affected by substance use and support our partner Drug Education Council, Inc in their work to provide education, resources and support throughout our community.
