Murphy High School The official page of Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala. Home of the Panthers! Murphy High School has long been the flagship of Mobile County Public Schools.

Named for former Superintendent Samuel S. Murphy, the school opened in 1928 and is the oldest continually operating high school in Alabama. The school was damaged in a Christmas Day 2012 tornado and has since received major renovations to all buildings on the historic campus. Disclaimer: We encourage your participation on our page. Murphy will be closed for all staff and students Friday, October 9th due to the incoming tropical weather. Please note Monday, October 12th and Tuesday, October 13th are already scheduled as no school days for students for teacher and professional and work days. Our 2nd quarter will begin on Wednesday, October 14th. Please be safe with the incoming weather.

As Superintendent, I must make all decisions with the safety and well-being of our students and employees in mind. We all know and recognize that weather conditions can be unpredictable and forecasts may change quickly.

After careful consideration of the latest weather information and the potential for inclement weather in our area, I cannot risk anyone’s safety, as again, the weather conditions currently remain extremely unpredictable. Therefore, all Mobile County Public Schools campuses and offices will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026. I completely understand that closing schools can create challenges for families, and I do not take that impact lightly.

I appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate circumstances that are ultimately beyond our control. Please continue to monitor official MCPSS communication platforms for any additional information or updates.

💙STATE BOUND💛

Congratulations to Sofi Eaton on qualifying for the AHSAA State Swim Championships in Huntsville, AL, this November!

Sofi earned her spot at the state championship by qualifying in the 500 Freestyle which is an incredible accomplishment that reflects her hard work, dedication, and determination in the pool.
