Mayor James M. Baron Nestled in the beautiful Mohawk Valley, is the Village of Mohawk in Upstate New York.

The village officially became known as Mohawk in 1838 and was later incorporated on April 16, 1844. The Village of Mohawk is along the southern bank of the Erie Canal in Herkimer County.

Beginning on Monday, October 19th the NYS DOT will be working on the west bound lane of State Route 5S in the area of the traffic light at the 5S & E. Main Street intersection. There will be lane closures, please follow all detour signs that will be posted. We thank you for your patience while the DOT completes their work.

Beginning Monday, October 5, through Monday, October 12, Route 28 South will be closed to all traffic starting at the bottom of Vickerman Hill. Please observe all posted detour signage for alternative routes. Road work is being conducted by the NYS Department of Transportation.
