Weather Advisory!

Rain is moving in. Flooded roads are extremely dangerous—just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle away.

Key reminders:
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Turn headlights on when wipers are in use
• Turn Around, Don’t Drown — never drive through flooded roadways

Stay off the roads if you can. If you must travel, use caution and check Caltrans Quickmap for road closures. As always, drive safe Eastern Kern County.

Leadership means understanding the mission.

Assistant Commissioner Pinoli recently spent time alongside a dispatcher at the Inland Communication Center, experiencing firsthand the critical role our dispatchers play every day.

When someone calls for help, dispatchers are often the first voice they hear. They remain calm, gather critical information, coordinate resources, and help get the right people where they need to be.

For our leaders, understanding the people behind the mission matters. Taking the time to sit alongside employees and experience their work firsthand builds connection, perspective, and stronger leadership.

And for the public, remember, safe driving starts with you. Slow down, stay focused, put the phone down, and give emergency responders and roadside workers room to work.

Interested in serving your community? There is more than one way to answer the call. You can become a California Highway Patrol officer, or you can become the voice on the other end of the call as a CHP dispatcher.

Different roles. One mission: Safety, Service, and Security.

This Maximum Enforcement Period is about more than enforcement. It’s about preventing the next tragedy.

From 6:00 p.m. October 2 through 5:59 a.m. October 3, your CHP of all ranks and assignments will be working throughout California, with a particular focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

In 2017, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe’s family experienced a devastating loss caused by an impaired driver. Their story is told in the Emmy Award-winning CHP documentary Falling — a powerful reminder of why this work matters and what can happen when someone chooses to drive impaired.

This MEP is about preventing crashes, saving lives, and making sure more families make it home safely.

Drive sober and arrive alive!
