🚨 OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN INSPECTIONS – OCTOBER 5 🚨

Tomorrow, Monday, October 5th, from approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Braniff Communications will be conducting routine inspections of all outdoor warning sirens throughout Mokena.

As part of the inspections, residents may hear brief 10-second “burps” or test activations at individual siren locations. If any issues are identified, Braniff may perform maintenance as needed.

These brief activations are part of the scheduled annual inspection and are not an indication of an emergency.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure our outdoor warning sirens are functioning properly!

🚨 GENERATOR SAFETY — PLEASE READ, MOKENA! 🚨

The Mokena Fire Protection District has responded to more than a dozen carbon monoxide (CO) emergencies in the last 48 hours.

Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly. Portable generators can produce dangerous levels of CO, even when you don’t notice anything unusual.

⚠️ PLEASE KEEP GENERATORS AWAY FROM YOUR HOME!

✅ Operate generators OUTSIDE and well away from your home, garage, doors, windows, and vents.
❌ NEVER operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, or any enclosed or partially enclosed space.
🔋 Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working and have fresh batteries.

A generator belongs OUTSIDE — not in the garage, not on the porch, and not next to your home.

Please take this seriously. A few extra feet of distance can make the difference between a power outage and a tragedy.

Stay safe, Mokena. If you’re using a generator, PLEASE keep it away from your home. 🚒

Stay safe, Mokena! We have responded to several incidents over the past 24 hours involving generators and carbon monoxide (CO). If using a portable generator, please remember these basic safety guidelines:

* Keep the generator at least 20 feet (preferably longer) from any door, window, or other opening.
