Let’s clear up a few things about the UGB, because apparently the rumor mill is working overtime.
First: I looked at ALL the options. I didn’t walk into that council meeting with my mind made up. I listened, asked questions, weighed the consequences, and made the decision I believed was best for Molalla.
And I stand by it.
You don't have to like the decision. You don't have to agree with me. That's democracy.
But what I won't accept is people inventing motives or claiming I'm doing this for personal gain.
Look at my record.
I promised the voters we would get a new police station.
We did.
One month early and $1.2 million under budget.
I promised we would move forward on a new wastewater treatment facility.
We did.
It's on schedule and still under budget.
For six years, I've built relationships with state leaders, legislators, agencies and other mayors. I've sat in the rooms, made the calls, asked the questions and tracked what's coming down the road for Molalla.
That's part of being mayor.
You don't sit around waiting for problems to hit. You prepare for them.
Now, let's address another rumor:
Apparently I'm going to get rich because of all this.
That's a good one.
The longer I've been mayor, the poorer I've gotten.
My mayoral stipend is $200 a month. After taxes, that's about $150.
When you add up the hours I spend doing this job, I lose roughly 25% of the wages I could be making at my day job.
So if anybody thinks I'm doing this for the money, show me where the money is.
I don't do this for the money. I do it because I care about Molalla.
I stand by my morals, my integrity and the decisions I make when I believe they're in the best interest of this city.
If you think you can do it better, come get it.
Run for office. Put your name on the ballot. Show up to the meetings. Read the packets. Ask the hard questions. Make the tough decisions. Take the criticism. Stand behind your vote.
Don't just tell people how you'd lead.
Lead.
Don't just criticize the work.
Do the work.
Don't hide behind a keyboard.
Step into the arena.
If you want the job, come take it. Until then, I'm going to keep showing up, making the tough calls and doing the job I was elected to do.
