Around 1:30 PM on October 7th, the MJFD was dispatched to Ridge Road near the Route 130 overpass for a diesel fuel leak secondary to a motor vehicle accident. Units arrived to find a passenger vehicle had struck and punctured one of the diesel fuel saddle tanks on a tractor-trailer, causing a significant fuel leak that was entering a storm drain. Crews from Engine 1, Support Unit 207 and Engine 204 contained the spill until the arrival of the Middlesex County Hazardous Materials Unit (Middlesex County Hazmat FMBA Local 100). Units responding included Chiefs 200 & 210, South Brunswick Fire Safety Bureau, South Brunswick EMS, and South Brunswick Police Department.

On Sunday October 4th, the MJFD hosted our annual open house in celebration of Fire Prevention Week. More than 300 residents, one of the best turnouts in the history of our event, ventured out in the rainy weather to meet our firefighters, learn about fire safety, and tour our station. The MJFD would like to congratulate Jim Ryan, who earlier today was sworn in as the 7th Chief of the South Brunswick Township Police Department. Chief Ryan has served our community with distinction throughout his 31-year law enforcement career, and will undoubtedly continue to uphold the highest-level of integrity the organization has shown throughout its 90-year history. Today's beautiful ceremony was attended by numerous local, county and state officials, current and retired police officers, family and friends, as well as all three township fire chiefs.

We would like to recognize Chief Ryan for his tireless dedication to his family and to our community, and for including the fire chiefs in today's ceremony. Chief Ryan has always been an advocate for cooperation between all emergency services organizations, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to serve the residents of South Brunswick Township. Congratulations Chief Ryan and we wish you much success in your new position.
