Tonight is another Training Tuesday, and your Monona Fire Department was out putting the basic building blocks we worked on last week to practical use.

Multiple vehicles, multiple scenarios, all designed by our training committee to build muscle memory and basic extrication techniques.

Full-time staff, part-time staff, and paid-on-premise staff, all working together to safely provide the high level of service our citizens expect from the City of Monona, Wisconsin USA.

Last night at approximately 11pm, your Monona Fire Department was dispatched to the eastbound Beltline for a significant multi-vehicle accident with multiple injuries. All told, nine MOFD staff and ambulances from two other agencies (Fitch-Rona EMS and City of Madison Fire Department) responded to mitigate this chaotic scene.

In total, four individuals were transported from the scene to local hospitals, all with non-life threatening injuries.

This is the second significant crash on our stretch of the Beltline in as many days, and our fourth accident this month already. Of bigger concern is the number of drivers that drove past our blocking squads and cones and into the safety zone where multiple crews were working.

We do our very best to keep traffic flowing even during accidents, but when we need to shut the road down, it is shut down for the safety of our crews and victims. Please, please, PLEASE - slow down and follow the directions of our law enforcement partners and our staff.

It's Training Tuesday here at the Monona Fire Department!

Tonight, more than 25 of our members are participating in an overview of extrication and disentanglement, to highlight our September training topic of vehicle extrication. Tonight is a short drill, followed by more detailed trainings in the next few weeks, each building on the previous one.

We also welcomed several new Paid-On-Premise members to their first drill with us tonight!

Thanks our partners at Precision Towing & Recovery and City of Monona, Wisconsin USA DPW, we have a great training area setup for the rest of the month!

Did you know, your Monona Fire Department responded to almost 100 vehicle crashes and vehicle fires last year, many on the Beltline and Monona Drive. We train to be safe and efficient in helping those involved in vehicle crashes, to bring everyone home safe.
