A Seat Belt Violation Leads to a Much Bigger Problem: Monroe Narcotics Detectives Uncover Fentanyl and Co***ne
A traffic stop on Tuesday led to the discovery of more than 120 grams of fentanyl and co***ne, along with one final surprise after the driver was taken to jail.
On October 20, 2026, a Monroe Police Department detective stopped a vehicle operated by Sherard Weathers, 40, of Cornelius.
A subsequent search uncovered approximately 118 grams of fentanyl and 6 grams of co***ne.
Weathers' trip to jail came with one final surprising discovery. During the booking process, officers located another 5 grams of fentanyl concealed in a rather unconventional hiding place. That brought the total fentanyl recovered during the investigation to approximately 123 grams.
Weathers was charged with:
• Trafficking fentanyl by possession
• Trafficking fentanyl by transportation
• Felony possession of a controlled substance in a jail facility
• Maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of selling a controlled substance
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Failure to wear a seat belt
A seat belt violation may have been the reason for the stop, but the discoveries that followed turned it into a much bigger investigation.
The Monroe Police Department remains committed to disrupting drug distribution and holding individuals accountable for activities that threaten the safety of our community.
