πŸ¦‡ Bats, Bats, Bats! πŸ¦‡

Today, Mrs. Jennifer visited JU Blacksher First Graders, who enjoyed learning all about bats! Our young learners explored the fascinating world of these unique mammals and discovered what makes them so special.
During the lesson, students learned about microbats and macrobats, bat characteristics, diets, habitats, wingspans, and why bats are nocturnal. We also discussed the bat life cycle and how these amazing animals play an important role in our environment through insect control and pollination.
To wrap up the lesson, students put their knowledge to work by completing a bat life cycle activity, helping them reinforce what they learned in a fun, hands-on way!
We love seeing curiosity grow as students explore the wonders of nature and discover the important role wildlife plays in our world!

Monroe County is currently in stage 2 of the Disaster Declaration process. No decision has been made by the Governor's office or the President concerning Public Assistance (helping pay for road clearing and debris removed from right of way) OR Individual Assistance (helping citizens without insurance or under-insured damage) from Hurricane Isaias. Damage assessments are ongoing. We encourage citizens with damage to use the self reporting link to help us prepare for the submission. Teams will continue to make the assessments throughout this week.

The Emergency Declaration everyone is seeing for Escambia, Mobile and Baldwin counties was put in place prior to the storm to help move assets in the area to mitigate loss of life and property.

I know it is hard to be patient when we've suffered such a widespread loss of power and cell service. Hopefully all power restoration in Monroe County will be completed in a short timeframe.

Tarps, MRE's and Water have been distributed to some of the more harder hit areas. If you have a need for any of these emergency supplies, please message us and we will point you in the right direction. I know MRE's, tarps and water won't help as much as having power.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that has volunteered their time, energy, sweat and labor in helping citizens truly in need.

Please spread the information about the self reporting tool and the information about Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief. They have chainsaw crews that are helping citizens with tree removal from homes. We are supplying them with tarps as well.

🐻πŸ”₯ Smokey Bear Visits Our 2nd Grade Excel Students! πŸ”₯🌲

Our 2nd grade Excel students had a special opportunity to learn about the story of Smokey Bear, his important fire safety rules, and the role we all play in preventing wildfires! Students enjoyed learning how to be responsible stewards of our forests and how small actions can make a big difference in keeping our communities and natural resources safe.
The highlight of the day was a very special visitor β€” Smokey Bear himself! Students were excited to meet Smokey and learn firsthand about his important message: β€œOnly YOU Can Prevent Wildfires!”
A special thank-you to the Alabama Forestry Commission for helping make this memorable learning experience possible for our students. We appreciate your commitment to educating the next generation about wildfire prevention and protecting Alabama’s forests! 🌳❀️

🌎πŸŒͺ️ Weather and Our Environment at Monroeville Elementary! πŸŒ±πŸ’§

Mrs. Jennifer visited Monroeville Elementary second graders to discuss the effects of weather on our environment and how both natural events and human activities can impact the world around us!
Students explored a variety of weather-related events and environmental challenges, including tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, soil and water erosion, flooding, droughts, and freezing temperatures, ice, and snow. Through discussion, they learned how these events can affect our land, water, plants, animals, and communities.
The students also discussed ways humans can impact the environment, both positively and negatively, and explored actions we can take to help protect our natural resources and reduce some of these impacts. From caring for our soil and water to making thoughtful choices that protect our surroundings, even small actions can make a difference!
To wrap up their learning, students put their artistic talents to work by creating colorful pinwheels! This hands-on activity provided a fun way to connect their creativity with the power of moving air and the world of weather.
We love seeing our students ask questions, explore the world around them, and discover ways they can make a positive difference in their environment!
