🚧 Downtown Construction Notice 🚧

Beginning at 7 a.m. On Thursday, October 1, contractors will resume work on the downtown streetlight replacement project along portions of Commercial Avenue and Holly Street.

No lane closures are anticipated during construction, and traffic will continue to flow through the work areas. However, some off-street parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable at various times throughout the project as crews complete work.

Motorists and pedestrians traveling through the area are asked to use caution, be mindful of contractors and equipment on site, and obey all posted work-zone signage.

The Town appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, downtown businesses, and visitors while these improvements are completed.

September 11, 2001 is a day that shall never be forgotten. This morning the Monterey Police Department along with the Monterey Fire Department TN, Putnam County EMS, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Monterey High School, Home of the Wildcats JROTC Color Guard, Monterey City Administrator and several members of the Board of Aldermen gathered to honor the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks. We were honored to have 150 students and families from Burks Elementary School, Monterey High School, Home of the Wildcats, LBJ&C Head Start and many Veterans and retired First Responders walk with us. We walked from the flag pole at the Monterey Depot and then walked to Burks Elementary School. When we arrived at Burks, an Honor Guard of Monterey Police officers retired their old flag and presented a new one to the principal and assistant principal. This is also a special occasion for Burks Elementary School as the first day the school was opened was September 11, 2001. We would also like to thank the Monterey Senior Center for use of their van to help with getting people safely back to their vehicles. We are honored to serve in such a wonderful community.

🚨TRAFFIC ALERT🚨

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Holly Street Railroad Crossing

​Please be advised that the northbound Holly Street railroad crossing sustained damage this evening.​Safety cones have been deployed to alert motorists. Drivers heading northbound are urged to exercise extreme caution and significantly reduce their speed when traveling through this area.

The railroad has been notified and repairs will be executed as soon as possible.

Water day at Burkes Elementary! Only one thing that can mean is school is almost over for the year and summer is on its way!

Yesterday we had visitors from the Columbia Hill home schoolers. Talked about fire safety and got to check out all the trucks and equipment!
