We have a lot happening this month—Library Club, movies, workshops, special guests, our Coat Giveaway, a Teen Halloween Event, and more! 📚🎬🎨🎃

Montevideo Public Library is glad to serve as the host location for this community Coat Drive & Giveaway!

Please note that the library is providing the space for this effort, but we are not the organization coordinating or organizing the drive itself. We’re happy to help make our building available so community members can donate winter gear and families in need have a place to access it.

🧥 COAT DRIVE
Donations of clean, like-new, or gently used coats will be accepted through October 24 at the Montevideo Public Library during regular open hours. Gloves, hats, boots, and snow pants are also welcome.

📍 Montevideo Public Library, 224 S. 1st St.

Winter coats will be available free of charge to community members in need. To help make sure there are enough coats for as many people as possible, the giveaway is limited to ONE COAT PER PERSON.

We’re grateful to be able to provide a welcoming location for this community effort and help connect donated winter gear with the people who need it.

📚 **VOLUNTEER READING TUTORS NEEDED!** 📚

Want to make a real difference for a local child — in less than an hour a week?

We’re looking for volunteers to help with our **FREE Reading Tutoring Program for students in grades 1–3!**

❤️ **No teaching degree required.**
📖 Work one-on-one with a young reader.
⏰ Commit to approximately **45 minutes once a week**.
📅 Tutoring will run from the **week of October 13 through the week of December 7**.
🦃 **Thanksgiving week will be available as a make-up week.**

Tutors will provide extra reading practice, encouragement, and positive one-on-one attention to help young readers strengthen their skills and confidence.

If you enjoy reading, working with kids, or simply want an easy and meaningful way to give back to your community, we’d love to have you!

🦘 THE SAFARI IS STILL ON! 🐊
We’ve heard a few rumors that the Sustainable Safari program may have been canceled, but that is not true—the presenter is still coming, and the program will take place as scheduled!
Join us for an exciting live-animal experience:
📅 Wednesday, July 29
⏰ 10:00 a.m. during our normal Storytime
📍 Java River Courtyard
Come meet some amazing animal ambassadors up close! Possible animals include a kangaroo, fox, porcupine, possum, and gator.
This program is free, and everyone is welcome. Please help us spread the word—we can’t wait to see you there!
Animal appearances may change based on availability, health, and the animals’ well-being on the day of the program.
