Today, the Alabama STEM Council, of the Alabama Department of Workforce, announced a $251,939.59 investment in The Saban Center for STEM Education in Tuscaloosa. The funding will support curriculum development, program materials, professional development and staffing to expand learning opportunities for students and educators.

As one of Alabama’s three state-designated STEM Hubs, the Saban Center brings education, industry and communities together to connect STEM learning with regional workforce needs.

By supporting these partnerships, we’re helping students explore career possibilities while building the workforce Alabama needs for the future.

Important update for Alabama unemployment claimants:

Beginning September 30, 2026, individuals filing an initial unemployment compensation claim will verify their identity through Login.gov. This new process will help protect claimants, prevent fraud, and safeguard Alabama’s unemployment compensation system.

What claimants need to know:
• Begin in the Alabama Unemployment Claimant Portal.
• Select Identity Verification after submitting an initial claim.
• Sign in to Login.gov or create an account and follow the instructions provided.
• Complete identity verification within 10 calendar days. Failure to do so may delay or deny benefits.

Online verification is required first. Claimants who are unsuccessful online, or whose claim is denied because identity verification was not completed, may then visit an Alabama Career Center for assistance.

Access the Claimant Portal at https://uiclaimantportal.labor.alabama.gov/.
