What would one day without water look like in your community?

Homes would be without water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing. Hospitals, schools, farms, and local businesses would struggle to provide essential services.

Reliable water and wastewater infrastructure supports public health, economic growth, and everyday life. It also depends on skilled professionals who operate, maintain, and protect these systems every day.

Today, we invite you to recognize the value of water and the people helping keep Alabama communities flowing.

Connect with ARWA and discover the support available to your system.

A water main break can temporarily affect service, but there is a careful process behind every repair.

Crews locate the break, isolate the damaged section, safely expose and repair the pipe, flush the system, and complete the necessary checks before normal service resumes.

Explore the carousel to learn what happens during each step. If your local utility issues a boil water advisory or other instructions, continue following them until the utility announces that they have been lifted.

See water pooling in the street? Contact your local water utility to report it.

Fact: Water can appear clear while still containing contaminants that aren't visible to the naked eye.

Routine testing, treatment, and monitoring help ensure the water reaching your tap meets safety standards. It's one of the many ways water professionals work every day to protect public health.

Water conservation starts with simple, everyday habits. 💧

Turning off the tap while brushing, taking shorter showers, repairing leaks promptly, and watering lawns during cooler parts of the day can all help reduce unnecessary water use.

Small changes add up. Every drop counts!
