On behalf of the Alabama State Parks Division and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all of the dedicated first responders, linemen, utility workers, emergency personnel, and our own hardworking Alabama State Parks staff who have been working around the clock to keep our coastal communities safe and restore park operations following Hurricane Isaias.

From our park rangers and maintenance crews to our hospitality and administrative teams, your tireless efforts to clear debris, inspect facilities, and safely reopen our parks represent the very best of Alabama.

Our hearts and prayers remain with our neighbors across the region who are still dealing with the storm's aftereffects, navigating power outages, and repairing damage to their homes and businesses.

Thank you to our visitors and local community members for your patience, support, and strength.

The pier and surrounding beaches are closed under a mandatory evacuation order.

Follow all emergency advisories, local curfews, and instructions from public safety officials.

Throughout the week, our State Parks Division, Deputy Commissioner Charlanna Skaggs and Director of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Chris Lewis joined us to talk conservation, Alabama’s fisheries and the lakes that make our state such a great place to get outside.

A good reminder that taking care of yourself can start with something as simple as going to a state park and stepping outside.

The sound of a creek, fresh air, sunshine and a little time away from the noise can all give your mind a chance to slow down.

Being outside can help reduce stress, boost your mood and give your brain a break from the constant notifications of everyday life.

So, take the long way. Find a trail. Sit by the water. Take a breath.
