FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montrose, CO —
On August 29, 2026, at approximately 1:11 PM., officers responded to a horse vs. vehicle accident in the intersection of North Park Avenue and North 2nd Street. A single horse hitched to a carriage, unoccupied, was startled while waiting to be loaded into the trailer at the North 2nd Public Parking Lot. The horse ran eastbound on North 2nd Street while the carriage was still hitched. The vehicle involved was traveling southbound at the intersection when the horse impacted the passenger side of the vehicle. We are saddened to report that the horse had to be euthanized by responding veterinarians due to the seriousness of the sustained injuries. The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. Our thoughts are with both the horse owner and vehicle driver.

Investigating officers determined that there were no criminal actions involved with this incident.
