Last Thursday evening 10/8/26 was the last night of the year for the Moody Police Department Citizen’s Academy. We went out with a bang as we welcomed Sgt David Emerson with the St Clair County Drug Enforcement Unit. Sgt Emerson gave a little insight to the class concerning the county’s fight against illegal narcotics and how they are winning that fight!
Also we were happy to have Attorney Eric Fine speak to the class about Municipal, District, and Circuit court procedures and what crimes these courts host. He instructed on jury selection and why it’s important for both the prosecution and defense attorneys. He discussed Miranda Rights, where it originated from and it’s importance in criminal investigations.
We have been very humbled and honored to have everyone who participated in our classes; students and instructors, and we feel that this was one of our best years yet. We look forward to starting again next year with bigger and better programs for our Academy and we also look forward to seeing everyone that would like to participate.

The Moody Police Department Citizen’s Academy had the honor of having Detective David Latimer speak tonight on policing in the 21st Century versus policing in the past. The literal differences in how police work has vastly improved in just the past few years is astounding. From technology, equipment, implementing new policies, and just culture in general shows the way police work has changed and improved and is a step in the right direction in community policing.
Also we were happy to have LT James Mulkey with the Moody Fire Department with us tonight. LT Mulkey is our city’s Fire Marshal but he also wears other hats as well. He is also the drone operator/administrator for both the Fire and Police department. He gave instruction tonight on fire investigations and drone operations. Being a Fire Marshal and being able to use drones for those investigations is paramount. The drones have many uses for public safety which he demonstrated today in our neighboring city of Springville and the unfortunate incident that they had today. Thank you to both instructors tonight!

This new law establishes requirements for the care, sheltering, and tethering of dogs kept outside.

Update 6:48pm - Highway 411 is open.

Highway 411 in the area of Oak Blvd is currently shut down due to a bad wreck.

We are working to open up southbound lanes and get a northbound lane open.

Please use a different route at this time.

PUBLIC NOTICE-PAVING WORK
This Notice is sent to inform residents of BLUERIDGE SUBDIVISON, MONTEBELLO SUBDIVISION, and ROBBIE DRIVE that the City of Moody is scheduled to begin pavement improvements THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2026.

The improvements will require all cars parked along the roadways to be removed.
During this work, please expect significant delays for the area. The Contractors will be directing traffic in these areas as needed.

The City of Moody thanks you for your patience and cooperation for this Resurfacing.

What a perfect day to shoot some paper!! The Moody Police Department Citizen’s Academy got to do just that! We went to our Moody Police Department range this morning and instructed our students on weapon safety, procedures, and range safety. Several of our students had never shot a weapon before and after careful instruction had such a good time with great results. Huge thanks to our department fi****ms instructors, Capt Melton, Sgt Latimer, Sgt Simpson, and Officer Ko.
