Fire prevention week is well underway! Don’t forget, “Safe charging is a superpower!”

09/03/2026

Fire Prevention Week is close (October 4th through the 10th)! The theme this year is “Charge Into Fire Safety! Safe Charging Is A Superpower!”

So many of our everyday devices use rechargeable batteries! They’re so useful but if they’re damaged, overheated, or charged incorrectly, they can cause a fire! Safe charging is important because simple habits such as using the right charger, storing batteries correctly, and unplugging devices when they’re fully charged, can help prevent fires.

Thanks Sparky for showing a cool way to understand thermal runaway!

Celebrating 250 years of FREEDOM this 4th of July! Happy Birthday, America.

Let's try to stay safe this momentous Independence Day!

How can we stay safe?
- Stay cool as the temps will reach highs near 100°F today, with a heat index of 105–107°F.
- Stay hydrated while you're staying cool. When temperatures rise, so does your risk of dehydration. Drink plenty of water to help your body stay cool and prevent heat-related illness.
- Know the signs of heat related illnesses: dizziness, nausea, headache, muscle cramps, and heavy sweating. Call 911 immediately for confusion, seizures, unconsciousness, or hot, dry skin.

Our crews are ready to help if needed! Have fun and stay safe!

PSA: The N.C. Forest Service will lift the open burning ban for 81 counties at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.

The statewide burn ban began on March 28 because of dangerous wildfire conditions. However, the ban will remain in place until further notice for these counties: Iredell County, Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes, and Union.

While we understand there has been some rain recently, it has not been enough to reduce the fire danger, and much of the state remains in a drought. Persistent dry weather, low humidity, and wind continue to keep wildfire risk high, making it easy for fires to start and spread quickly.

Please note: lifting the state burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied home. Local fire marshals still have the authority to issue or continue burn bans within that area.

Starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 3, burn permits will be available again in counties where the ban has been lifted. Residents in those counties must get a new valid burn permit before burning, since all permits issued before the March 28 ban were canceled.

THANK YOU!
