As a land-grant institution, the University of Minnesota has a mission to address critical issues through public education. University of Minnesota Extension education and research improves economic, social and environmental conditions in Minnesota and the world by engaging Minnesotans to make better decisions, take positive action and create significant outcomes in their lives and communities. The University of Minnesota Extension, working with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, trains volunteers to educate the public with research-based information on the best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship. Each year, University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener volunteers give more than 135,000 hours to their communities—a public value worth more than $2.9 million. Master Gardener activities benefit schools, community gardens, youth programs, environmental education programs and farmers markets. These enthusiastic and highly trained volunteers make Minnesota communities more sustainable, beautiful, knowledgeable and fun.

Halloween is this week and that means pumpkins are out. But what do you do with them after?

Did you know that pumpkins CANNOT go into yard waste piles? Thanks to the Clay County MN Take Jack Back program, you can help compost them. All pumpkins dropped off at designated locations will be reused for compost on a local farm!

Simply drop off your pumpkins between November 1 - 14 and they will be composted through Clay County.

Moorhead locations include:
• 700 15 Ave N (Public Works Facility)
• 23 St S & 40 Ave S (Soccer Field Parking Lot)
• 418 Elm St S
• 3322 15 Ave N (Resource Recovery Center)
• Oakport Compost Site

*Please remove all: paint, glitter, candle wax, and any other decorations before dropping off.
