Catch three short films from Jonathan Johnson in The Rourke Micro-Theatre, located in the Reading Room and Archive on the second level of the museum: "Fjord Time" (2025), "River Ghosts" (2018), and "Silent Garden" (2023)—on view now through 18 October 2026.

Jonathan Johnson is a photographer and filmmaker whose work examines the relationship between landscape, memory, and cultural identity. Drawing from his mixed-heritage Thai American background, travel, and time spent in remote landscapes, he uses photography and film to consider how personal history shapes our understanding of place. Working across large-scale color photographs, darkroom prints, artist books, and moving image, Johnson adapts documentary traditions into poetic, observational works. His work has been exhibited in more than 30 countries.

Don’t miss a special installation of four recent acquisitions to The Rourke’s Permanent Collections from Wayne Gudmundson. The large-scale silver gelatin photographs were donated by the artist on the occasion of the opening of the exhibit "Three Ways Home."

Now on view in the Northeast Gallery on the museum's second level.
