On Monday, September 28,2026 at approximately 12:01 PM, firefighters with Moorhead Fire were dispatched to 1213 West Delta Ave in Moorhead for reported smoke coming from a residential structure. Engines and personnel arrived on scene in 4 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic area of the B side of the structure. The call was then upgraded to a working structure fire and the South Task Force was requested as well. Firefighters were able to quickly deploy 2 hand-lines and enter through the front door of the residence. They were able to find the seat of the fire and quickly extinguish it. Firefighters remained on scene for a while longer to complete overhaul operations. There were no injuries to civilians or any firefighters.

It is with great sorrow that the Sunflower Co Fire Coordinator’s Office announces the passing of Fire Chief Russie McIntyre of the Drew Volunteer Fire Department, who succumbed late yesterday evening following a nearly two-year battle with cancer. Chief McIntyre commenced his fire service career in 1985 and continued to respond to calls despite his illness. We request that his family and department be included in your prayers during this difficult time. Further details on arrangements will be forthcoming. Rest Easy Chief. We will answer the alarms from here!
