As Public Power Week comes to an end, we would like to thank the customers that stopped in at city hall and grabbed a bit of "swag", snacks, and energy efficiency handouts.
Staff enjoyed seeing all of you this week that stopped in and said hello!
Having a reliable resource is important to all that use it, and MMU will continue to help keep that resource running 24/7.
This is to keeping the lights on and the power flowing for all customers everywhere.

MORA CITY HALL CLOSED OCTOBER 9 2026

Mora City Hall and Utilities Offices will be closed to foot/in person traffic on Friday, October 9th, 2026, due to concrete repairs to the sidewalk and curb around the entrance of the building.

Staff will be working and will be available by phone as needed.
If a in-person meeting or paperwork is needed, staff recommends calling to schedule an appointment for that day to meet with appropriate staff.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this creates for the public and staff will do their best to make accommodations as needed.

Thank you.

Did you know that Mora has its own power plant?
Mora is home to generators that supplement power that is currently purchase and used throughout the MMU service area, and in the event of a major project or emergency, can supply enough power to run the MMU service area.
Staff from MMU maintain the system, run generators, and keep the lights on for the Mora community. We appreciate our line crew and all other line crews around the country that keep the lights on, 24/7 in all weather types.
Having the reliability of staffing and equipment to keep power flowing, and the prices in check, is important in a municipal utility.
Do your part in conserving energy and help celebrate Public Power Week!

If you are a MMU customer, stop by city hall for a bit of celebration and appreciation.
Just a reminder, this Monday (5th) through Thursday (8th) next week is when this will occur.
Unfortunately, the office will be closed to public foot traffic on Friday the 9th, due to concrete repair to curb/gutter and sidewalks around city hall, so take advantage of the beginning of the week.
Have a great weekend and see you soon.

Why should signs/advertisements not be put on city property including power poles?
Even though it seems harmless to most, adding signs, advertisements, and other items on poles, this affects the integrity of the pole and puts utility workers safety at risk. Damage due to the materials used cause holes creating voids that wildlife may use to hide, causing bigger wildlife to follow. This is a concern alone, but the hidden dangers of the material and items used to hang the signage (staples, nails, etc.) have injured workers with cuts and lacerations. They also cause damage to equipment used (line gloves, lifting ropes/harnesses) when working on poles. If safety gloves that are specific to high voltage are damaged, they are not safe. If lifting ropes/harnesses are damaged, they are not safe, and both will need to be replaced at an expense and put workers safety at much higher risks to perform utility duties.
Hanging of signage on utility poles is not allowed and will be removed. If you see this activity, please contact city hall.
Also, as a reminder, all signs put on City of Mora Properties will also be removed.
Please respect city and utility properties in and around the City of Mora and keep all signage on your private property.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Due to prolonged dry weather, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has moved the St. Croix River basin—which includes the City of Mora—into the Drought Warning Response Phase. The effects of the dry weather can be seen around the City, County and State.
To protect our municipal water supply and meet state mandates, all residents and businesses are asked to reduce non-essential water use immediately to help protect this valuable resource.
Please check out https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/waters/watermgmt_section/appropriations/water-conservation-residents.html andhttps://files.dnr.state.mn.us/natural_resources/climate/drought/drought_plan_matrix.pdf for more information.
Thank you for doing your part to help reduce use.
