A line of storms producing tornado warnings is currently to our north. As storms continue to move through the region, everyone in Rowan County should remain weather aware and be prepared to act quickly if a warning is issued for our area.

If you do not feel your home or current location provides adequate protection from severe weather, now is the time to make arrangements to go to a safer, sturdier structure with a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone you trust. Do not wait until a warning is issued to make those arrangements.

Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, including Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, Rowan Alert, NOAA Weather Radio, trusted weather apps, and local media. Do not rely on outdoor warning sirens as your only means of notification.

Know where you will go if a Tornado Warning is issued and be prepared to take shelter immediately.

Tuesday 7/21/2026 Weather Outlook

Thunderstorms Tuesday and Tuesday night could become severe. Damaging winds are expected to be the primary threat, although large hail, heavy rainfall, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Now is a good time to review your severe weather plan and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings, including Rowan Alert, NOAA Weather Radio, trusted weather apps, and local television or radio stations. Never rely on a single warning source.

If you do not feel your residence is a safe place to shelter during severe weather, make arrangements now to stay with a friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker who has a home where you would feel more comfortable. It is much safer to make those plans before storms arrive rather than traveling once severe weather begins.
