What a great weekend of training in Ashland!
SFRT District 9 recently completed a two-day Rescue Boat Operations class that kept students on the water and working throughout the weekend.

With more than 85% of the course dedicated to hands-on training, students rotated through operator and crew positions while practicing boat handling and positioning, rescuer deployment and recovery, crew-overboard response, victim recovery, anchoring, towing, emergency procedures, and other essential rescue boat skills.

We were proud to partner with Kentucky Urban Search and Rescue for this class. Partnerships like this bring together instructors, resources, and experience to provide quality training for our firefighters and rescue personnel.

A weekend like this takes a lot of people working together. A special thank you to the Eastern Kentucky Firefighters Association, Ashland Fire Department, Greenup County Firefighters Association, America’s Bravest Fire Equipment, All-American Fire Equipment, and John McWhorter with Giovanni’s for helping make this training possible.

Thank you to our instructors and students who put in the work all weekend. Great training, great teamwork, and another great weekend in District 9!

It has been another busy week in District 9, but first, we want to recognize some accomplishments within our own staff that we are extremely proud of!!

Congratulations to District 9 staff members Curtis Coleman, Blake McKibben, and James Ingles on successfully completing their EMT-Basic certification. We also want to congratulate Jacob Keyser and Jarred Moore on successfully completing their EMR certification. We are proud to see our staff continue to grow their knowledge and skills. Their commitment to professional development strengthens our team and helps us continue to better serve the firefighters and emergency responders throughout District 9.

In addition to these accomplishments, District 9 has been busy providing hands-on training throughout the district.

A five-day Rope Rescue Technician course was conducted in cooperation with Carter Caves State Resort Park, giving students the opportunity to develop and apply technical rope rescue skills in a challenging, real-world environment.

In West Liberty, firefighters participated in Flashover training, providing valuable experience recognizing rapidly changing fire conditions and improving firefighter survival and decision-making skills.

District 9 was also in Lewis County utilizing the FireBlast trailer to provide firefighters with realistic, hands-on fire training.

From our staff continuing their own education to quality training being delivered throughout the district, it has been a great week for District 9!!
