🚗 TRAFFIC TUESDAY: BUSY WEEK!

Morgan Hill, the roads were giving this week! From parking mishaps to DUI arrests, our traffic report has a little bit of everything. 😬

🚙 W. Middle Ave. / Native Dancer Dr.
A driver struck a parked vehicle, causing her vehicle to tip onto its side. Officers extricated her, and she was transported with a complaint of pain.

🚗 Monterey Rd. / W. 2nd St.
A gold Toyota struck a parked vehicle and left the scene. Officers found it near Dollar Tree, and it was towed. Leaving doesn't make the scene disappear. Nice try, though!

⚡ Monterey Rd. / Old Monterey Rd.
A driver went onto the sidewalk and struck an electrical box. Officers also discovered the driver had a suspended license.

🏪 Vineyard Town Center / Sherwin-Williams
A student driver hit the gas instead of the brake while parking and drove into the business. Thankfully, no injuries! The building was yellow-tagged. The paint store wasn't looking for this kind of interior renovation. 😬

🚔 Monterey Rd. / W. 2nd St.
A driver traveled without headlights and ran two stop signs. Officers observed signs of alcohol impairment and arrested the driver for DUI.
Headlights help you see. Stop signs help you stop. Neither is decorative!

🚨 Monterey Rd. / 5th St.
An officer on-viewed a Nissan run a stop sign and collide with a Scion carrying a family, including an infant. The Nissan's driver was arrested for DUI.

A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS:

✅ Stop signs mean STOP, not “let's see what happens.”
✅ Parked cars are not target practice.
✅ Gas and brake pedals are not interchangeable.
✅ A suspended license isn't a driving challenge.
✅ If you've been drinking, get a sober ride. Every time.

We're grateful no one was seriously hurt. Your car is not a bumper car, sidewalks aren't alternate routes, and the gas pedal isn't meant to accelerate every situation. 😉

Let's make next week's Traffic Tuesday less eventful. We've got other things to do, and we're guessing you do, too!

🚨 BAD DECISIONS, NINE DOGS & A VERY UNLUCKY BOAR 🚨

Morgan Hill roads were apparently auditioning for a reality show this week.

🍩 Watsonville Rd / Monterey Rd
Officers responded to a vehicle doing donuts in an intersection. The grown adult driver admitted to the donuts. One teensy-weensy problem:

BAC: .30% 😳 That’s not glazed. That’s absolutely frosted.

🐗 E. Dunne Ave / Thomas Grade
A driver reported hitting a wild boar in her company vehicle.

Somewhere, a boss read “company vehicle” and “boar” in the same email and quietly closed the laptop.

🐕 Monterey Rd / E. Dunne Ave
A driver with a suspended license and outstanding warrant was stopped. Before the vehicle was towed, officers removed NINE DOGS. 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕

At some point, a traffic stop becomes an episode of Paw Patrol.

😴 Tennant Ave / Vineyard Blvd
Officers found a man passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. He was arrested for DUI.
BAC: .153%

🚗💨 Monterey Rd / Wright Ave
An officer spotted a vehicle traveling northbound on Monterey Road.

Small problem: IT WAS IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANES.

DUI arrest. BAC: .210%

💥 Church St / E. Edmundson Ave
Officers responded to a solo vehicle collision with a pole. The driver was determined to be DUI.

🌳 Monterey Rd / E. Dunne Ave
A driver reportedly passed out behind the wheel, went over the curb and hit a tree. She was transported to the hospital.

BAC: .433%.

We’ll give you a moment to reread that.
433%.

That number isn’t funny. It’s terrifying.

🚔 Now, the serious part…

We enjoy a good joke. We do not enjoy knocking on someone’s door to tell them their loved one isn’t coming home.

DUIs are preventable.

If you drink, don’t drive. Get a rideshare. Call a friend. Designate a sober driver. Sleep on someone’s couch. Eat their leftover pizza.

Just don’t get behind the wheel.

🍩 Donuts belong in bakeries.
🐕 Nine dogs probably deserve a bigger vehicle.
🐗 Watch for wildlife.
🌳 Trees don’t move.
🚗 Use the correct side of the road.

Drive sober, Morgan Hill. We’d much rather meet you under less ridiculous circumstances. 🚔

Morgan Hill Police Investigate Homicide

On October 3, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) notified Morgan Hill Police Department Communications that Roy Anthony Lopez, a 37-year-old Morgan Hill resident, had arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose and reported that he had killed his wife.

First responders located an adult female victim inside a vehicle parked at the hospital. Paramedics provided immediate emergency medical care, but the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

SJPD officers detained Lopez without incident until MHPD officers arrived, took him into custody, and transported him to Morgan Hill for questioning. Lopez was later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on a charge of murder under Penal Code section 187(a).

The preliminary investigation indicated that the incident occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Vintage Lane in Morgan Hill. Officers conducted a protective sweep of the residence and located three minor children, ages 14, 6, and 3. The children were safely escorted to the Morgan Hill Police Department and later released into the custody of the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services.

The Morgan Hill Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time

Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Sergeant Sean Bayard at (408) 607-3032 or via email at [email protected].

💍 WELL, THIS IS AWKWARD.

Someone in Morgan Hill lost their wedding ring sometime within the last week.

Before you panic, check your hand, and begin mentally preparing your “you’re not going to believe this…” speech to your spouse, we have good news:

WE HAVE IT. 😂

Because Morgan Hill is Morgan Hill, an awesome human found the ring and turned it in👏

No, we’re not posting a picture.

No, “it’s round and expensive” will not count as a description.

The rightful owner will need to accurately describe the ring and provide proof of ownership.

So if your left hand has been feeling suspiciously light lately… get in touch with us.

Everyone else: SHARE THIS POST.

Let’s get this ring home before its owner has to explain why they’ve been walking around with their hand in their pocket for a week. 😂💍

🚨🚗 TRAFFIC TUESDAY: . 🚗🚨

This week brought us a little bit of everything - crashes, DUI enforcement, hit-and-runs, and a vehicle that met a retaining fence. 🤦‍♂️🚧

📍 Tennant Avenue / Juan Hernandez Drive: 🚗💥 Two vehicles collided, with one person transported for minor injuries. 🚑🩹 Slow down, folks - we’d rather see you arrive safely. 😬🚦

📍 Monterey Road / Manresa Lane:🚔🍺 An officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as DUI. 🚫🚗🍻 Friendly reminder: If you’ve been drinking, your car can wait. Your friends can drive. Uber exists. 🚗➡️🏠

📍 E. Dunne Avenue:🚗💨 Officers responded to a reported hit-and-run collision. 🚨🔎 If you hit something…or someone..sticking around is generally a better plan than making a surprise exit. 🫣🏃‍♂️

📍 Farallon Drive:🚔🛑 Officers stopped a Toyota truck for CVC violations and contacted the driver, who displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. 🍺
🚫🚗 Remember: A traffic stop is not the time to discover that your decision-making skills have left the building. 😬🏠

📍 Jackson Oaks Drive:💥🚗 Residents reported hearing a loud crash and seeing a male leave the area. Officers arrived and located the driver and his dog on the side of the road. 🐕👮‍♂️The driver reported that his brakes failed while traveling uphill, sending the vehicle into a retaining fence. 🚙💥🧱

📍 Burnett Avenue / Monterey Road: 🚗💥🚗💥🚗 A three-vehicle chain reaction collision occurred when Vehicle 1 rear-ended Vehicle 2, which then rear-ended Vehicle 3. Two drivers sustained minor injuries. 🚑🩹 Leave some space, people! 😬🚘↔️🚘

🚦 MORGAN HILL, DRIVE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS PLANS TOO 🚦😂
👀 Pay attention.
🐢 Slow down when needed.
🍺🚫 Never drive impaired.
📱🚫 Put the phone down.
💺 Buckle up.
🚗💙 And please, let's keep the crashes to a minimum.

Stay safe out there, Morgan Hill! 👮‍♂️🚔💙

🚓Traffic Tuesday

This week’s roads featured wrong-way driving, fences, red lights, e-bikes, light poles, falling asleep, and enough vehicle damage to remind us why driving sober and paying attention are both highly recommended.

Butterfield / Tennant: Officers responded to a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway. As officers arrived, the vehicle started slowly rolling westbound…in the eastbound lanes. The driver eventually stopped near the Johnson Lumber parking lot. The driver said he was tired. Officers determined he was apparently really tired…from all the ma*****na he had been smoking. DUI arrest.

Monterey/John Wilson: Driver fell asleep behind the wheel as he was traveling southbound on Monterey Road from Watsonville Road. The vehicle drifted across the northbound lanes and collided with a cement wall and a street light pole in front of the Economy Inn.

Monterey Road / W. 5th Street: A vehicle turning southbound onto Monterey Road struck a 17 year-old riding an e-bike.

DeWitt Avenue: A driver left the roadway and crashed through a barbed-wire fence.

Walnut Grove Drive / E. Dunne Avenue: Two vehicles collided, leaving one driver with a laceration to the hand and requiring transport for medical treatment.

E. Dunne Avenue / Church Street: Two vehicles collided after a driver ran a red light.

Mission View/Half: Another DUI.

Monterey/Bisceglia: Another DUI.

E. Dunne/Condit: Another DUI.

Monterey Road / Central Avenue: Officers responded to a vehicle stuck on the center divider. They found the disabled vehicle south of the intersection and a crosswalk light pole that had also been knocked down. The driver was arrested for DUI.

And that concludes this edition of Traffic Tuesday.

Slow down. Pay attention. Stay in your lane. Stay awake. Obey the traffic signals. And, most importantly, if you’ve been drinking or using ma*****na, don’t drive.

The goal is to get where you're going - not create a new landmark along the way.

🚔 Traffic Tuesday:

🍺 DUI, DUI, DUI… Several impaired drivers were taken off the road, including one with a .210% BAC.

😴 “I’ll just sleep it off here.” Officers found multiple people sleeping in or around vehicles while drunk, including one person who decided the Taco Bell drive-thru was a perfectly reasonable place for a nap. We admire the commitment to the late-night menu, but not the drinking and driving part.

🚗💥 One moving vehicle. Three parked cars. DUI.

The takeaway:
😴 Naps are fantastic.
🚗 Driving is fantastic.
🍺➡️🚗➡️😴Drinking + driving + napping? Not fantastic.

If you’ve been drinking, leave the keys alone and get a safe ride home. Stay safe, Morgan Hill! ❤️🚔

This week, we’re taking a break from our regularly scheduled social media content for a very important plea:

PLEASE. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CAR.

A heat advisory was issued today, and unfortunately, our officers still responded to Chili’s for a report of a dog left inside a vehicle.

When officers arrived, the window was cracked.

The temperature inside the vehicle?

113°F.

Let us be very clear: a cracked window does not make a hot car safe.

Officers breached the window and rescued the dog from the vehicle. The dog’s owner was located and arrested.

We love our four-legged family members here at MHPD, and this one is simple: if you can’t take them inside with you, leave them somewhere safe and cool.

No quick errand, meal, or stop is worth your pet’s life.

With temperatures climbing, please look out for your pets—and if you see an animal in distress inside a hot vehicle, call us. 113 degrees is not okay. It’s an emergency. 🐾
