We were warned of a potential flash flood alert being needed along highway 66 from the dam to Whites Crossing. This was posted out on a few county websites/pages as a precaution. We just heard back from the NWS (National Weather Service) and the storn stalled out just south of the burn scar after dumping 0.8 inches in under an hour and has moved around the burn to the north end of the burn scar. It is still dumping a moderate amount of rain that could cause some mud and debris to flow down the affected canyons but no flash flooding is currently threatening. We will continue to update you if that changes via social media and the NWS WEA (wireless emergency alert system)
It would be a good idea to avoid the area until the storm has passed.

🚨 **LOCK YOUR DOORS. YES, EVEN HERE.** 🚨

We know Morgan County is a small community. We like that about it. We know our neighbors, leave our doors unlocked a little more than we probably should, and sometimes think, *“Nobody is going to bother with my car.”*

Unfortunately, someone apparently didn't get the memo about our small-town values.

Over the past couple of nights, we have had **several vehicle and residential burglaries** reported in the area.

So, here’s your friendly reminder from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office:

**Lock your vehicles.**
**Lock your house doors.**
**Close and lock your garage doors.**
**Don't leave valuables sitting in your vehicle.**
**And maybe don't leave your keys sitting in the cupholder.** We shouldn't have to say that one, but here we are. 😂

We are fortunate to live in a community where crime is relatively low—but **low crime does not mean no crime.** There are people who will take advantage of an unlocked door or an easy opportunity, regardless of what the population sign says.

The good news? A lot of burglaries are crimes of opportunity. **Don't make your home or vehicle the easy opportunity.**

Take the extra 10 seconds to lock it.

And if you see something suspicious, **say something.** Get a description, vehicle information, location, and call us. Please don't confront anyone yourself.

We'd much rather have you call us because you saw something suspicious than have you call us because you discovered your truck, house, or garage was burglarized.

**Morgan County may be a small town, but crime still exists. Let's not make it easy for the criminals.**

🚨 **HIGHWAY 66 / EVACUATION UPDATE** 🚨

Residents who were previously evacuated along **Highway 66 are now permitted to return home.** Please understand that this could change if fire conditions worsen, and residents may be asked to evacuate again.

Now for the part we really need everyone to pay attention to:

**PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT TRAVEL SOUTH PAST YOUR HOME.**

There are still **hot spots in the area that could flare up and reignite**, and firefighters are actively working to make the area safe and protect homes and property.

We understand that people are curious. We really do. If you live here, you want to see what is happening. If you don't live here, apparently a wildfire can look like a pretty interesting weekend adventure.

**It is not.**

Right now, the burned areas are **not a hiking trail, sightseeing destination, or place to explore.** Every time someone enters the restricted area, firefighters have to stop what they are doing and address that person instead of focusing on the fire.

Our firefighters are working hard to protect **lives and property in Morgan County.** Please help them do their job by staying out of the affected area.

**HIGHWAY 66 IS STILL CLOSED.**
You **CANNOT travel through to East Canyon Reservoir.**

If you live north of the closure and have been authorized to return home, please go home and stay there. Do not use your return home as an excuse to continue farther into the closed area.

We promise—you are not missing the next great Morgan County tourist attraction. 😏

**Please stay safe, stay out of the fire area, and let the firefighters do what they are here to do.**

Hello everyone, friendly reminder here. The scammers are still at it and will not be stopping....ever. Please be aware of these phone calls claiming to be an employee of the Sheriff's Office informing you of a warrant for your arrest, telling you you missed jury duty or a missed appearence WE WILL NOT CALL YOU! If we need you, we will come find you. The scammers get more brazen everyday and have now been telling people to go to Ridley's (or other stores) and pay via a kiosk or gift cards or bitcoin to satisfy the debt they claim you have. If you get a call like this, hang up immediately and don't answer when they call back.

If you have elderly family please talk to them about this as they are the ones who usually fall for these scams.

Thanks and be safe!
