We aren’t in this career for the glory or praise. But, when we are recognized for what we do, it validates why we do this!
We received this message a bit ago from a Jaret A. Sweet. I felt compelled to share this with you all. So, with Mr. Sweet's permission and without further ado, here is his message.
"I wanted to thank you very much. I was involved in a motorcycle wreck around Sturgis on July 20. Yellow Gold Wing versus deer. I was so out of it after hitting the deer that I didn’t know what was going on. Union County dispatchers saved my life. My phone automatically called emergency services and dispatch was able to pinpoint my location with no problem. I was not able to think or speak. I didn’t know where I was. I would have laid there and died if it wasn’t for the Union County dispatch team. I have no idea who responded, but I remember sirens and a lot of hoopla.
It was a scary time. I’m thankful for all of the procedures you folks have in place for a situation where someone’s phone is on the line with dispatch but nobody can speak.
Thank you so much.

If you’re curious, I was transported to Deaconess in Evansville and stayed in ICU for four days. After my lungs and ribs were out of the woods I was transferred to general care then released after a week. I’ve made it home and I’m in the process of a full recovery with a bunch of metal in my left side.
Is there any way to get ahold of the officers who helped me through that? I would like to reach out and personally thank the first responders who were there for me through that.
Thank you, Mr. Sweet, for your kind words. We will be providing those names as soon as possible. We are certainly happy for your full recovery.”
