Charlie Brown will get more than a rock at the Garden's Annual Fall Children's Festival.

Enjoy fairy house building, pumpkin painting, seasonal crafts, and other hands-on activities for families this Sunday, October 4, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Parking is limited, so preregistration is required. Many wonderful volunteers work to ensure you have a great time. The event is free, but parking is $10/car -- buses not permitted. (Visit wvbg.org to register or volunteer.)

The forecast looks a little drizzly, but the event is rain or shine. We're gonna have a fun time, join us!

There’s no horror in these scarecrows, they’re all about improving quality of life in our communities and state. Each October, regional nonprofits join us for the Scarecrow Spectacular in the Garden. They will be on display throughout October.

Check WVBG.org to learn about many other events and programs this month at your Garden!

This won't be the day the music died, but this Thursday, September 10, will be the last of the 2026 Summer Concert Series. Michelle Fincham and Chris Felton are gonna close us out in two-part harmony. Tickets available at wvbg.org or in person at the show. The WVBG Event Lawn is a hidden gem among Morgantown area live music scenes. We hope to see you there!

Also, just a note that Hill & Hollow at the Garden will be closed this coming Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 12-13).

Calling all nonprofits!

It’s time to start planning your masterpiece for the 2026 Scarecrow Spectacular at the West Virginia Botanic Garden!

We’re inviting nonprofits to create a scarecrow that represents your organization, your mission, or just your wildest imagination. Last year brought some wonderfully creative entries—including this coal miner emerging from a coal shaft!

Your scarecrow will be part of this year’s display and a fun way to showcase your organization to our visitors.

A little Blanche Lazzell challenge...

Pictured here, visitors admire 'The White Petunia' (1954), one of Blanche Lazzell's celebrated white-line woodblock prints.

But elsewhere in the Garden is another work featuring remarkably similar subject matter. Can you find 'Petunias' (1928)? Look closely and you'll discover the same black pitcher filled with petunias, created decades earlier before Lazzell fully developed the modernist style and white-line technique for which she became famous.

Take a walk, compare the two, and let us know—which version do you like better?

If we could update our Facebook relationship status, it would be 'mycorrhizal'. The mushroom flush is prolific right now in the Tibbs Run Preserve. Take time to wander and observe.

Have you visited 'Mountain Modern: The Art of Blanche Lazzell' yet this summer?

Discover reproductions of Blanche Lazzell's paintings and iconic white-line woodblock prints throughout the West Virginia Botanic Garden. Later this month, continue the experience at the Art Museum of West Virginia University with 'Blanche Lazzell: Becoming an American Modernist', featuring original works from the largest public collection of her art.

Pictured here is Lazzell's 'The West Virginia Hills', thoughtfully placed to overlook the Garden's basin and echo the landscape that inspired the scene.

Do you have a favorite piece from the exhibit? We'd love to hear which one—and why!

Our Lead Horticulturist/Site Manager does a terrific job designing and maintaining planters at the WVBG. We love seeing how they change every year and thought you might enjoy learning more about these beautiful plants. Which one is your favorite?

We've got a good one for you! On Thursday, August 6, the Summer Concert Series continues with Doug Spears. His style is a modern-day troubadour's blend of musician, songwriter and storyteller. Doug is an authentic acoustic folk / Americana artist with a unique style that somehow seems immediately familiar. He makes his home in Flagler Beach, Florida and Parsons, West Virginia; touring throughout both states.

Tickets are on sale now at https://www.wvbg.org/summer-concert-series-2026/
or you can pay at the event. $10/adult nonmember, $5/WVBG member.
