Every year at the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association Winter Conference, we have our Injured & Fallen Deputy Fund Charity Auction. These auctions generally raise over $70,000!

Thank you to all our donors and all those who donated in years past! The proceeds from the auction help us provide support to injured and fallen deputies and their families.

If anyone is interested in donating, please see the attched forms. Our office could also assist with transporting donated items to auction in December.

Moro, OR. – Official Release: On October 10, 2026, deputies responded to a report of skeletal remains discovered on remote, private property in the southern portion of Sherman County.

The Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team was activated and responded to the scene. The team collected the remains, which will be submitted to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis.

We will provide additional information as it becomes available and when appropriate to release.

Deputy Kyle Burnett is working with the Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team and serving as the local point of contact for this investigation. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact Deputy Burnett at [email protected].

The investigation is ongoing.

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: INCREASED TRAFFIC AND ROAD HAZARDS

With the Biglow Solar Project in full swing, we have seen a significant increase in traffic in Rufus and along Scott Canyon Road.

This morning alone, between approximately 0500 and 1000 hours, deputies issued 16 traffic citations to vehicles traveling toward the project. These included:

7 speeding violations

6 commercial truck violations involving trucks traveling on Scott Canyon Road without the required permits

Numerous additional warnings were also issued.

Commercial semi-trucks with trailers are prohibited from traveling on Scott Canyon Road without a permit. Due to their length, these vehicles cannot safely navigate certain corners and may cross into oncoming traffic, creating a serious hazard for other motorists.

The Sheriff’s Office is aware of the ongoing problem and has contacted project management regarding these concerns. Unfortunately, the issue persists.

If you travel on Scott Canyon Road, please use caution, remain alert, and anticipate increased traffic and potential hazards.

We will continue to address these violations and work to improve safety for everyone traveling in the area.

This morning, I had the privilege of swearing in Alicia Talley as the newest Patrol Deputy with the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Talley was raised here in Sherman County and is excited for the opportunity to give back to the community that means so much to her. She joins our team with 8 years of law enforcement experience and holds an Intermediate Certification as a Corrections Deputy with NORCOR.

In 2021, Deputy Talley was awarded the Oregon Police Officers Association Lifesaving Award with Valor after jumping into the Columbia River and saving a drowning child. Her courage and willingness to put herself in harm’s way to save another is a testament to the kind of person she is and the commitment she brings to public service.

Please join us in welcoming Deputy Alicia Talley to the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office! We are excited to have her on our team and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish serving the community she calls home.
